Black War Wolf is a ground PvP mount of the Horde faction, added back in the classic era of World of Warcraft and originally conceived as the battle version of the orcish wolf for players with a high PvP rank. It is a massive black wolf clad in red forged armor, with the Horde's signature emblem on its chest plates and a heavy metal collar. The model is recognizable at a glance: unlike the standard wolves of Orgrimmar, the war version has thicker fur, a predatory silhouette and glowing eyes.
In the modern game the mount is sold for 15
Marks of Honor by Raider Bork — the riding mount quartermaster outside the Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar. No PvP rank, title or reputation with battleground factions is required anymore: any Horde character who accumulates 15 marks in combat gains access to the purchase. On patch 11.1 The War Within the mount is fully current and remains one of the easiest ways to complete the collection of the Horde's "Black War" racial mounts.
Since patch 7.0 (Legion) the old grind for marks of individual battlegrounds was removed from the game, and all PvP mounts of this kind were switched to the single Marks of Honor currency. Today, to make the purchase it is enough to take part in any PvP activities — separate marks of Alterac Valley, Warsong Gulch or Arathi Basin are no longer needed.
Raider Bork stands near the entrance to the Hall of Legends — the orcish counterpart of Stormwind's Champions' Hall. The hall is located in Orgrimmar by the passages from the Valley of Strength and is marked on the map with a PvP icon.
The mount is bound to the Horde and cannot be purchased on an Alliance character. The only way for an Alliance player to complete this mount is to create or transfer a character to the Horde side, buy the wolf there and use it through the shared journal of allied Horde characters. On an Alliance character the mount will not appear in the journal.
Marks of Honor are the single PvP currency introduced in patch 7.0 along with Legion and still relevant today. At level 80 in The War Within it can be earned in practically any PvP activity.
With active play, 15 marks are accumulated in roughly 40–60 minutes:
If the goal is to collect all five "Black War" mounts at Raider Bork at once, budget for 75 marks and 3–5 hours of focused PvP farming.
Raider Bork sells the full set of the Horde's "Black War" racial mounts. The prices and conditions are the same — 15 Marks of Honor, no reputation or rank requirements:
| Mount | Item |
|---|---|
| Black War Kodo | |
| Black War Wolf | |
| Red Skeletal War Horse | |
| Black War Raptor | |
| Swift Warstrider |
It is optimal to spend a single vendor visit on the whole set — this closes five slots in the mount collection and advances all the related achievements at once.
Get the mount right after your first battleground wins — 15 marks are accumulated quickly, and the purchase completes an achievement and immediately gives you a mount you can use right in combat. Do not put it off for "someday later"
Farm marks in epic battlegrounds if you need several mounts — epic Alterac Valley and Isle of Conquest give noticeably more marks per run, and the long matches are offset by the fact that you simultaneously level achievements and the PvP season
Do not confuse the war wolf with the ordinary wolves of Orgrimmar — there are several other wolf mounts in the game, but the "Black War Wolf" from the PvP vendor is a separate model and a separate item. They cannot be used as substitutes for one another
Keep a stock of Marks of Honor in reserve — Raider Bork has a closed assortment, but marks are also needed for transmog sets of old PvP seasons and relics. A surplus of 20–30 marks in your bag will speed up any subsequent purchase
Status in The War Within — the wolf and the vendor have not changed since patch 7.0. As of patch 11.1 the mount is fully available, remains the simplest Horde PvP mount from the historic set and requires neither ranks nor reputation. There have been no announcements about removal or price changes
