Garden Scythe — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Garden Scythe is a two-handed polearm that fills the staff slot in the wardrobe. It is not a battle blade but a genuine piece of garden equipment: a long shaft with a wide, curved scythe blade for cutting grass. The model debuted in the Warlords of Draenor expansion alongside the garrison system and is meant for anyone who wants to build a "rustic" look for their character.
Visually, the scythe deliberately steps away from the usual fantasy weapon aesthetic. The dark wooden shaft and the matte, faintly rusted blade make it feel closer to peasant life than to a hero's arsenal. For that reason the staff is prized by collectors of themed looks: a reaper, a farmer, a country druid, or a grim character wielding a "death" scythe.
With patch 6.2.2 the item became uncommon quality and now binds when picked up, so you can no longer resell the scythe or pass it to another character — you have to buy it within your own garrison.
Source
The Garden Scythe is sold for in-game currency in the garrison herb garden, a separate garrison building on Draenor. This is a vendor purchase; there is no drop or rare farm here.
- Alliance vendor — Naron Bloomthistle in the garrison of Lunarfall.
- Horde vendor — Tarnon in the garrison of Frostwall.
- Price — 5000 gold and 1000 units of the currency
Draenic Seeds.
To gain access to the vendor, you need to build the herb garden in your garrison. The building unlocks around level 96 with a tier-two garrison through an introductory quest to clear the plot. Once built, the garden produces herb plots every day.
Draenic Seeds is a currency that drops when you gather herbs in your garden and all across Draenor: each plot yields 1 to 3 seeds. So 1000 seeds for the scythe add up over a few days of regular harvesting, and at the same time you stockpile seeds for the other garden tools as well.
Who it suits visually
- Suits reaper and dark-character looks: a scythe is traditionally associated with death, so it fits well with grim sets made of cloth in dark tones.
- Harmonizes with "rustic" and druidic looks in a green-and-brown palette, where the weapon depicts a working tool rather than a blade.
- Stands out in the hands of a plate-wearing character — the deliberate mismatch of peasant equipment and heavy armor makes for a memorable, humorous look.
- Comes together as a single set with the garden pitchfork and shovel for roleplaying a farmer or gardener.
Tips
1
Build the herb garden as early as possible: it not only grants access to the scythe but also supplies herbs and Draenic seeds on a steady basis.
2
Harvest the garden daily — seeds trickle in 1–3 per plot, and the thousand you need accumulates on its own over a few visits.
3
If you farm all three tools at once, budget 3000 seeds and 15000 gold — take currency with a margin so you don't have to make a second trip.
4
Gathering herbs across the open world of Draenor also yields Draenic seeds, so you can top up the currency during ordinary herbalism leveling.
5
Keep the bind-on-pickup in mind: buying the scythe in advance on one character and mailing it to another won't work, so buy it on whoever needs the appearance.
6
At max level in Midnight, all of Draenor and the garrison can be cleared solo, so reaching the vendor and gathering seeds require no group.
