Reins of the Red Shado-Pan Riding Tiger

Overview

Reins of the Red Shado-Pan Riding Tiger is a ground mount from Mists of Pandaria that the Order of the Shado-Pan quartermaster sells for gold once you reach Exalted. It is one of the three color variants of the order's riding tiger (red, blue, and green), and the red tiger is considered the faction's signature: its color matches the main palette of the Shado-Pan armor.

The mount is still easy to get: you can comfortably acquire it on a level 80 character, since all of the Pandaria content has long been scaled for high-level characters and clears almost effortlessly. Thanks to this, farming reputation goes quickly and without risk.

Why you want this mount

  • Collection value. The red tiger is part of the Shado-Pan trio, and a complete collection of the faction's mounts requires all three colors.
  • Counts toward achievements. The mount counts toward the general achievements for the number of mounts collected.
  • Order theme. The tiger stylistically matches the Shado-Pan armor and symbolism — a great choice for monk characters and roleplay.
  • One grind, three mounts. Once you raise reputation to Exalted, you can buy all three colors, as well as the quartermaster's other rewards.

Requirements and how to get there

  • Character level: 90. The Pandaria content scales, so survival won't be an issue.
  • Reputation: Exalted with the Order of the Shado-Pan.
  • Gold: 2,500 gold to purchase the mount (the price drops thanks to the goblin racial discount and reputation discounts).
  • Riding skill: any, the mount is ground-based.
  • How to get there: fly to the Townlong Steppes, the Shado-Pan Garrison (southwest of the zone, coordinates around 49, 71).

Step-by-step guide

Step 1. Unlock the Shado-Pan daily quests

You can only reach the Shado-Pan quartermaster after the order opens its garrison to you. To do this, you first need to befriend the Golden Lotus in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and complete the chain of introductory quests in the Townlong Steppes. If you have already played through the Pandaria storyline, access is most likely already unlocked.

Step 2. Fly to the Shado-Pan Garrison

The garrison is located in the southwest of the Townlong Steppes. The flight point unlocks through the storyline; if you prefer, you can also fly in from the nearest settlement and run to the gates on foot.

Step 3. Complete the daily quests

Each day, one of three quest-giving masters hands out a set of five dailies:

  • Lin of the Six Pools — quests in the Sha'weth area.
  • Master Snowdrift — quests at the Gai-Cho campfires.
  • Ban Bearheart — quests in the Shan'ze Dao area.

All three are located in the center of the garrison, at roughly coordinates 49.5, 71.0. Only one set is available per day — which one is offered is determined by a rotation.

Each set grants about 1,250 reputation per day before bonuses.

Step 4. Get the Grand Commendation of the Shado-Pan

Upon reaching Revered, buy the Grand Commendation of the Shado-Pan from Rushi the Fox. Once used, it grants +100% reputation gained with the order and applies account-wide. This significantly speeds up the path from Revered to Exalted and makes leveling on alts easier.

Step 5. Reach Exalted and buy the mount

Once you reach Exalted, return to Rushi the Fox and buy the Reins of the Red Shado-Pan Riding Tiger for 2,500 gold. We also recommend picking up the blue and green variants — all three count toward the collection.

Farming optimization

  • Tank/DPS specialization. At level 80 the dailies are killed fastest in a DPS spec with good AoE; the mob groups in the quests are convenient to pull into packs.
  • Don't skip days. The main source of reputation is precisely the daily quests. A skipped day means losing 1,250+ points.
  • Grand Commendation. Be sure to buy and activate it at Revered. Doubling reputation pays off within a couple of days of grinding.
  • Do the quest sets in full. The final fifth quest of each block grants the most reputation, so quitting halfway isn't worth it.

Tips

1

Grab all three colors at once. The red, blue, and green tigers are sold by the same quartermaster, for 2,500 gold each. You're coming for Exalted anyway — there's no point in putting it off for another time.

2

Check your story progress. If Rushi the Fox isn't visible in the garrison or isn't offering mounts, you most likely haven't finished the introductory Shado-Pan or Golden Lotus quest chain.

3

Play a goblin or use buffs. The goblin racial discount lowers vendor prices, and Exalted grants an additional 20% discount on reputation goods — the final price will come out noticeably below 2,500 gold.

4

Entering the garrison. Elite pandaren guards stand at the entrance — don't tag them with stray AoE until the storyline gate-opening steps are complete.
