Purple Elekk
Overview

Purple Elekk is a ground racial mount of the Alliance draenei, added to World of Warcraft with The Burning Crusade expansion (patch 2.0.1). Elekks are massive beasts from Draenor that look like a cross between an elephant and a mastodon, which the draenei have bred for centuries as riding and pack animals. The purple color is one of three base variants and the cheapest: the model is the same as the
Brown Elekk and
Gray Elekk, differing only in hide color.
The mount is sold by elekk breeder Torallius the Pack Handler in the Exodar. Draenei of any specialization can buy it right after learning the riding skill. All other Alliance races can only purchase the mount upon reaching Exalted with the Exodar faction. For the Horde and neutral classes, the mount is entirely unavailable.
Why you want this mount
- Cheap starter mount for a draenei — the Purple Elekk costs one gold and lets a draenei character switch from walking speed to a mount immediately, without spending money on other color variants.
- Adding to your mount collection — once purchased, the mount is saved account-wide and counts toward your total of collected mounts for achievements like Stable Keeper and Cavalry Commander.
- One of the elekk collection colors — Torallius sells six models in total, and the Purple Elekk fills one of them. The other five (
Brown Elekk,
Gray Elekk,
Great Blue Elekk,
Great Green Elekk,
Great Purple Elekk) are unlocked from the same vendor, so a single trip to the Exodar covers the whole lineup. - Speed depends on riding skill — the mount grants +60% or +100% movement speed depending on your riding rank, meaning it rides exactly as fast as any other ordinary ground mount.
- A colorful alternative to standard Alliance animals — against the usual horses, wolves and rams, the purple elekk looks unusual, especially in older zones.
How to get the mount
The main and only method is to buy the
Purple Elekk from the vendor in the Exodar. If you play a draenei, the process takes a couple of minutes. For other Alliance races, you'll first have to grind reputation to Exalted.
- Get to the Exodar — the draenei capital on Azuremyst Isle. The fastest way is through the portal from Stormwind in the mage quarter, or via the portal system from your order hall or garrison base
- Go inside the ship and climb to the upper ring around the Vault of Lights. At the elekk pens north of the trade quarter, Torallius the Pack Handler, labeled "Elekk Breeder," will greet you
- Make sure you have learned the
Apprentice Riding skill — this is the minimum requirement for any ordinary ground mounts - If your character is not a draenei, check your reputation with the Exodar faction. You need Exalted status
- Open the trade window with Torallius and buy the
Purple Elekk for 1 gold (the price drops with good Exodar reputation) - Use the item from your bag — it teaches the summoning spell, and the mount appears permanently in your collection
Where to find Torallius the Pack Handler
The Exodar is divided into several sectors around the central Vault of Lights hall. Torallius stands in the northern part of the city, by the pens with live elekks, not inside the trade quarter.
The fastest route to the Exodar for a character who already has Stormwind unlocked:
- Teleport to Stormwind with a hearthstone or via the
Guild Hearthstone - Walk to the Mage Quarter into the mage tower
- Use the portal to the Exodar
- From the arrival platform, walk straight and climb to the outer ring of the city — Torallius stands among the elekks by the northern wall
If you don't have a direct portal, you can reach the Exodar by water: from Stormwind harbor, board the ship to Valaar's Berth on Azuremyst Isle, then fly to the Exodar by gryphon.
How to get Exalted with the Exodar
If you don't play a draenei, the mount won't be sold without Exalted status. Reputation with the Exodar builds up slowly, but there are no time restrictions — you can close it out in one or two evenings at max level.
Main ways to gain reputation:
- Exodar tabard. Buy the
Exodar Tabard for 10 silver from quartermaster Kadu in the Exodar itself. Wear it and run classic Wrath of the Lich King dungeons and later expansions — all reputation from kills in the dungeon will count toward the Exodar - Tournament daily quests — at the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown, competing on behalf of the draenei, you receive daily quests that grant a noticeable boost to Exodar reputation
- Draenei starting zone quests — Azuremyst Isle and the neighboring Bloodmyst Isle contain dozens of quests granting Exodar reputation. This is relevant for low-level characters leveling in these zones
At max level, the easiest approach is to put on the tabard and run 5-10 classic level 70-80 dungeons — that's usually enough to close the missing reputation levels. If you ever did the Azuremyst Isle quests on a draenei alt or another Alliance character, some reputation may already be accumulated — check the reputation tab before heading out.
Tips and common mistakes
- Visit the Exodar at least once on a draenei alt — if you have a free character slot, it makes sense to create a draenei and complete the intro quests on Azuremyst Isle. First, this grants significant Exodar reputation that will be useful for your other characters. Second, on a draenei the mount is bought without reputation restrictions.
- Check Torallius' exact location — he stands not inside the Exodar trade quarter, but a bit further, by the pens with live elekks to the north. If you don't see elekks around the vendor, you've come to the wrong place.
- Don't confuse him with Kadu — quartermaster Kadu sells tabards and reputation rewards, but not mounts. Only Torallius sells elekks
- Collect all color variants in one visit — as soon as you reach Exalted, buy all six elekks at once. Coming back later is a hassle, and your mount collection will gain six entries at once.
- Don't waste extra gold on epic versions too early — the great elekks cost more, and if you don't have the
Journeyman Riding skill, they won't move any faster than common ones anyway. Level your riding first, then buy the epic version. - The mount is account-wide — buy it just once on any character and it unlocks for all your Alliance heroes, including future ones. If you already took the Purple Elekk on an old draenei, check your collection — you may already have it.
- The way without reputation is a draenei — in World of Warcraft there is no alternative source of the Purple Elekk, and none is planned. If you don't want to grind reputation, the only option is purchasing it on a draenei character.
