Overview

Golad, Twilight of Aspects

Golad, Twilight of Aspects is a one-handed dagger of legendary quality, added to World of Warcraft with patch 4.3 of the Cataclysm expansion. It is a short blade in a dark crimson and charcoal palette with smoldering scarlet veins, pulsing as if it were a living shard chipped off Deathwing himself. The silhouette of the blade echoes the predatory curve of a dragon's fang, while the guard is styled after a scaled dragon's claw.

This is a rogue main-hand weapon, so in transmogrification the appearance is available only to that class. The dagger is part of the legendary set Fangs of the Father — a pair of blades forged by the young black dragon Wrathion from shards of his father Deathwing. Its off-hand counterpart is the dagger Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages; together the two blades form a single legendary set and complement each other visually.

Golad is one of the most recognizable rogue transmog daggers: the dark red palette, draconic aesthetic and rarity of its source make it a status weapon for looks themed around black dragons, Twilight's Hammer cultists and dark assassins. Despite its age (Cataclysm is a long-outdated expansion), the appearance remains relevant as a symbol of the end of the Deathwing era.

Source

Golad, Twilight of Aspects cannot be bought and cannot be obtained as a random mob drop. It is a legendary item granted at the end of a long quest chain from Wrathion, available only to rogues and tied to the Dragon Soul raid.

  • The chain begins with Wrathion — the Black Prince, a young dragon who sits in a tavern and offers the rogue a series of tasks to hunt down traitors and gather shards of Deathwing's essence.
  • Every stage of the chain requires running the Dragon Soul raid from the Cataclysm expansion: some of the rewards and reagents drop only from this raid's bosses, including the final encounter, Madness of Deathwing.
  • The dagger itself is obtained in three steps: first a plain statless blade, then a version with basic stats, and finally the fully upgraded legendary version after killing Deathwing at the end of the chain.
  • The chain is completed once per character: the appearance unlocks only for the rogue who finished it, and does not unlock through the account collection in the full mode until the item is obtained.
  • The chain itself has no hard weekly cap, but progress is gated by the weekly lockouts of the Dragon Soul raid: each stage waits for a new raid reset.

Today the Dragon Soul raid is easily soloed at the current character levels of the Midnight expansion, so the only real obstacle is the need to play a rogue and work through the entire chain stage by stage.

An important nuance of solo farming: the Spine of Deathwing encounter to this day remains the most awkward to solo because of its platform-fall mechanic. The rest of the raid bosses pose no problems — they are killed in literally a few hits.

Alternatives

The Golad, Twilight of Aspects dagger has no color recolors with separate identifiers — it is a unique legendary model that exists in exactly one variant. Similar looks in silhouette and theme should be sought among other Cataclysm weapons made in a draconic and crimson aesthetic.

  • Golad's counterpart is Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages — the off-hand dagger from the same legendary set. Both blades are obtained in a single chain and worn as a pair.
  • Other daggers from the Dragon Soul raid are stylistically close looks from the same season, dropping directly from the raid's bosses.
  • Crimson and draconic daggers from the Dragonflight expansion are fresher options with a similar color palette, if redoing the quest chain isn't an option.

If you want exactly this silhouette and this palette, you'll have to farm Golad itself: the item has no visually exact equivalent from another source.

Who it suits visually

  • Suits looks themed around black dragons and the Twilight's Hammer cult: the dark crimson palette echoes the theme of Deathwing's shards and sits well on leather sets in black and red tones.
  • Harmonizes with charcoal-black and dark red armor — for example, with Cataclysm-era rogue raid sets and those of later eras in a similar palette.
  • Fits assassin and shadow-hunter concepts: the smoldering scarlet veins on the blade add a sinister glowing detail to the look.
  • Looks great paired with its twin blade Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages — the two daggers of the Fangs of the Father set form a cohesive silhouette with a unified color scheme.
  • Contrasts with light cloth and plate sets — a debatable but expressive combination for "fallen paladin" or "renegade" looks, if you dress the rogue in an unconventional palette.

Tips

1

The appearance is available only to rogues: if your main is of another class, you'll have to grind the chain on a rogue alt.

2

Before taking the starter quest from Wrathion, make sure the rogue is ready to clear the Dragon Soul raid in full — without that, chain progression is blocked by weekly lockouts.

3

At modern character levels the Dragon Soul raid is soloed on almost any spec; the most convenient way is to play a durable melee with good single-target damage.

4

Be careful on the Spine of Deathwing: the platform-detachment mechanic makes this encounter the most awkward to solo; a rogue will find evasion and fall-control abilities useful.

5

The chain hands out intermediate versions of the dagger: the first stage gives a purely cosmetic statless blade, the second a version with basic stats, and only after killing Deathwing does the fully upgraded legendary arrive.

6

Stock up on time: even at modern levels a full run of the chain takes several weeks due to the stages being tied to the weekly Dragon Soul raid reset.

7

After obtaining the item, the appearance unlocks in the transmogrification collection only for the rogue who completed the chain — it cannot be used as a transmog on other characters of the account.

8

Don't throw the dagger out of your inventory: to unlock the appearance the item must stay with the rogue or be placed in the transmogrification collection after it is unlocked.
