Corrupted Hippogryph is an epic ground and flying mount added in patch 4.3.0 "Hour of Twilight." It is a dark hippogryph with olive-green plumage tainted by the fel, one of the rarest collectible mounts in World of Warcraft. The mount is granted by redeeming a loot card from the Crown of the Heavens set of the WoW TCG.
The mount journal says of it: "It's a shame that even the wise and majestic hippogryphs can succumb to corruption." The Corrupted Hippogryph differs from the other hippogryph mounts in its lack of a saddle and armor — it looks like a wild, untamed creature touched by demonic corruption. The mount's eyes glow with an eerie yellow-green light, intensifying the fel effect.
The Corrupted Hippogryph is a promotional mount from the WoW TCG. Unlike some other TCG mounts, it never appeared in the Trading Post and was never given out through Twitch drops. As of today, there are two ways to acquire it.
This is the original way to obtain the mount.
Important: codes from WoW TCG loot cards do not expire. Unredeemed cards purchased many years ago still work. Make sure the code has not already been used before making a purchase.
The
Corrupted Hippogryph item binds when used rather than when picked up. This means players who have redeemed a TCG code can list the mount item on the auction house without learning it.
Tip: check the auction house periodically — listings appear infrequently, but the price can fluctuate significantly. Use the TradeSkillMaster or Auctionator addon to track prices.
Crown of the Heavens (full name Aftermath: Crown of the Heavens) is a World of Warcraft TCG card set released on February 7, 2012, by Cryptozoic Entertainment. The set contained three loot cards with in-game rewards of varying rarity:
| Loot card | Reward | Drop chance |
|---|---|---|
| Grell Moss | Grell pet | 1 in 11 boosters |
| Magical Ogre Idol | 1 in 132 boosters | |
| Corrupted Hippogryph | 1 in 264 boosters |
The Corrupted Hippogryph was the set's headline reward and the rarest of the three loot cards. To obtain it by opening random boosters, you would have needed, on average, to buy about 7–8 booster boxes (36 boosters per box).
The WoW TCG was officially discontinued in 2013. No new codes are produced, but unredeemed cards are still sold on the secondary market.
Landro Longshot is a goblin merchant with whom all WoW TCG promo codes are redeemed. He stands on the dock of Booty Bay in the Cape of Stranglethorn zone.
For the Alliance:
For the Horde:
Landro stands on the dock next to two bodyguards wearing flame tabards. He is easy to recognize by his purple shirt.
The Corrupted Hippogryph has a unique model based on the "hippogryphfelskin" file. Its key visual features are:
Since the WoW TCG was discontinued in 2013, new codes are no longer issued. The Corrupted Hippogryph remains one of the few TCG mounts that have not been re-released through the Trading Post, Twitch drops, or other promotions. This makes it considerably rarer than the Flameward Hippogryph or the Spectral Tiger.
| Source | Estimated cost |
|---|---|
| Digital code (resale sites) | $10–15 USD |
| Unredeemed physical card | $20–50 USD (depending on condition) |
| In-game auction house | Hundreds of thousands to millions of gold (depends on the server) |
Caution: when buying codes on third-party sites, there is a risk of fraud. Use only trusted marketplaces with a buyer-protection system. Never hand over the code before payment is confirmed.
Check the auction house regularly — the mount item binds when used, so it can be bought on the auction house with gold. Listings appear infrequently, but this is the safest way to acquire it without real money
Use tracking addons — set up notifications in TradeSkillMaster or Auctionator to get an alert when the Corrupted Hippogryph appears on the auction house.
Digital codes are cheaper than physical cards — if you want to use the promo-code method, digital codes on specialized sites usually cost considerably less than physical unredeemed cards. However, make sure the seller is reliable.
Codes do not expire — Blizzard has confirmed that WoW TCG promo codes do not expire. Even cards from 2006 still activate successfully.
Keep an eye on the Trading Post — although the Corrupted Hippogryph has not yet appeared in the Trading Post, Blizzard is gradually adding former TCG mounts to the rotation. The Flameward Hippogryph has already been sold for Trader's Tender, and the Corrupted Hippogryph may be next.
Counts toward achievements — the mount counts toward mount-collecting achievements.
Free up a bag slot — when collecting the item from Landro Longshot, make sure you have a free bag slot. If your bags are full, the item will not be granted.
