Dreadblade is an uncommon one-handed dagger of uncommon quality with an item level of 13. The item binds when equipped, requires character level 18, and suits intellect-using classes: mages, warlocks, priests, shamans, and druids.
Visually, it is a short straight blade with a narrow edge and a modest crossguard — a typical "working" dagger model from the early zones. No glow, no fancy details: plain metal and a simple hilt. It is precisely this restraint that makes the look fit nicely into strict, utilitarian outfits, where a flashy weapon would feel out of place.
The dagger has existed in the game since the very first release of World of Warcraft and belongs to the set of basic low-level models. It has no separate reference to lore or to a specific event — it is an ordinary item of the world, valuable today solely as an appearance for transmogrification.
Dreadblade is a world drop: it is not tied to a single boss or dungeon but falls from a large number of low-level mobs in the starting and mid-level zones. Because of this, the item has no "farming spot" with a high chance — you can encounter it almost anywhere as you level up.
The dagger drops most consistently from ogre humanoids in the Badlands. It is most often dropped by Dustbelcher Mauler and Dustbelcher Shaman — the large camps of this clan in the Badlands provide a dense stream of kills. The item is also found on the Lost One Muckdweller in the Swamp of Sorrows, on the Sandfury Soul Eater in the Zul'Farrak dungeon, and on the Glutinous Ooze in the Un'Goro Crater.
The blade also hides inside containers. It is part of the loot of the
Reinforced Steel Lockbox — a locked chest that itself drops from low-level enemies — and it is found in the
Emerald Encrusted Chest, which is discovered in the open world. The lockbox must be opened: this is done by a rogue with the Lockpicking skill, a blacksmith with a skeleton key, or an engineer with seaforium.
Key properties of the source:
The fastest route is the auction house: the item binds when equipped, and it is often cheaper to buy it than to farm it deliberately.
For farming, choose the dense ogre camps of the Dustbelcher clan in the Badlands — there are many mobs in a small area, and kills go quickly.
For a high-level character, the world drop is obtained in a matter of minutes: low-level mobs die instantly, and the entire farm comes down to clearing speed.
If you come across a Reinforced Steel Lockbox, do not throw it away — give it to a rogue to open or use a blacksmith's skeleton key or an engineer's charge.
The appearance is counted toward the collection as soon as the item ends up with a class that can wear it — you do not have to equip it in combat.
The appearance collection is shared across the entire account, so it is enough to obtain the dagger once on any character.
While farming this dagger, you will be picking up many other low-level appearances from the same mobs — this is a convenient way to top up your transmog collection all at once.
