Mawsworn Darkcaster's Kris — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Mawsworn Darkcaster's Kris is a one-handed dagger of uncommon quality from the Shadowlands expansion. The model echoes the “palace” daggers of Oribos craftsmanship: a curved blade with dark engraving, a hilt shaped like a bone grip, and contrasting trim in the sinister aesthetic of the Maw.
The item binds when equipped and its level scales to the character, so the kris is equally useful for light farming on a veteran and for a fresh alt at level 60 in Shadowlands. It suits magical classes that wield a dagger in the off-hand or with both hands, as well as any character collecting a dark, bone-themed, or “cultist” look for transmog.
Source
The main way to get the transmog is to farm Mawsworn minions and related creatures across the Shadowlands zones. The kris is not tied to a single specific source and drops from several NPCs; the chance is small everywhere (on the order of one drop per several thousand kills according to Wowhead), so it is wiser not to “sit” on one mob but to sweep through several spots in a row.
Main Drop Sources
| NPC | Where to Look | Farm Type |
|---|---|---|
| Winged Spiritstalker | The Maw, southern part of the map | Solo, regular mob |
| Frostsoul Guardian | The Maw, elite patrols | Solo, elite |
| Mawsworn Scryer | Sanctum of Domination raid | Raid minion |
| Nyemi | Korthia, rare mob | Rare, once a day |
Coordinates for the Farm Route
For solo farming, the most convenient option is the Winged Spiritstalker in the Maw: the flying spirits stand in tight clusters and respawn quickly. A standard route through the southern part of the Maw:
Winged Spiritstalker: 52.0, 71.0 (southern flock)
Winged Spiritstalker: 52.6, 70.4
Winged Spiritstalker: 56.4, 70.6 (eastern flock)
Then you can head to the northwest of the Maw toward the Frostsoul Guardian points (around 22–28, 35–50): they are elite, but in Shadowlands gear they go down in a couple of hits, and the overall mob density in this corridor is one of the highest in the zone.
Difficulty and Limits
- Access to the Maw opens after completing the Shadowlands intro campaign.
- Korthia opens after progressing the patch 9.1 campaign and meeting the Death's Advance.
- The Sanctum of Domination is an old raid from patch 9.1, cleared solo on a veteran in 10–15 minutes on practically any class.
- There is no weekly lockout on the kris itself: regular mobs drop it on every kill, the only limit being respawn time; the rare mob Nyemi in Korthia has a personal spawn cooldown.
Alternatives and Similar Daggers
The Mawsworn Darkcaster's Kris uses the shared “Oribos” model of Shadowlands — a curved, narrow blade with dark engraving. The same model is worn by several gray and green daggers that drop in patch 9.0 dungeons and in the Maw: they are visually almost indistinguishable, so if this particular kris simply will not drop, you can collect a visual analog from any suitable drop of the same tier.
No direct recolors (one model in several bright colors) for this item are recorded in open Wowhead data: the color scheme is uniform — gray-black with a cold backlight. Similar in silhouette but not identical daggers can be sought among the Shadowlands Season 1 and Season 2 transmog sets from the Oribos PvP vendors.
Who It Suits Visually
- For “Maw cultist” and “Jailer's minion” themes — the kris is literally from the same aesthetic and perfectly complements gray-black cloth armor sets.
- It pairs with Shadowlands season transmog sets in cold dark shades — a shared palette of bone and dark-steel colors.
- It looks great alongside Oribos shields and daggers from patch 9.0 dungeons: a unified line and similar blade engraving.
- A contrasting but workable option for light priest or paladin sets — the dagger gives a visual “dark accent” in hand.
- It suits rogues and demon hunters building a “silent assassin” look with an emphasis on the lore of the Maw and Desmotaeron (the Desmotaeron and Mortuary district).
Farming Tips
- The most reliable solo route is the Winged Spiritstalkers in the Maw: they are weak, numerous, and spawn often, so you can run a lap every 3–4 minutes.
- It pays to farm Frostsoul Guardians in a chain: on any class with area damage (for example, mage or paladin) they go down in groups of 4–5 without stopping.
- It makes sense to enter the Sanctum of Domination once a week on heroic or mythic plus — along the way they grant a chance at tier and the season's transmog sets.
- You can set a “timer” on Nyemi in Korthia: after a kill she reappears in a few hours, so it is easier to keep the Korthia rare route in the queue of daily activities.
- The best classes for solo farming are paladin and demon hunter: the first holds large packs on shields, the second jumps quickly between points thanks to gliding and Metamorphosis.
- If you are interested in both transmog and Maw activities — combine the route with quests in the Maw and farming the “Stygia” currency: the same mobs cover two goals at once.
- Do not forget the “item level scaling” effect: even if your character is already in Midnight gear, the dropped kris will still rise to a useful item level when equipped and is ready for transmog right away.
- For a second and third “duplicate” it makes sense to grab the drop on alts: transmog unlocks account-wide, and each new character in the Maw is extra rolls on the same dagger.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
