Overview

Argent Hippogryph is a flying mount added to World of Warcraft in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.1.0). It is a brown-and-white hippogryph purchased at the Argent Tournament for 150 Champion's Seals. The mount is available to characters of both factions — Alliance and Horde alike.

The Argent Tournament is a large-scale daily quest system in the Icecrown zone, located in the northeast of Northrend. The tournament was introduced during Wrath of the Lich King and remains fully functional in The War Within. At the tournament grounds you will find numerous vendors offering unique mounts, pets, tabards and other rewards in exchange for Champion's Seals.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Flying and ground transport — the mount works both as a flyer (+150%/+280%/+310% depending on your riding skill) and on the ground (+60%/+100%). You get a versatile mount for any situation.
  • Available to both factions — unlike the Quel'dorei Steed, which is tied to the Alliance, the Argent Hippogryph can be bought by characters of any faction.
  • Unique model — the brown-and-white coloring sets this hippogryph apart from most other flying mounts. It stands out as a distinctive piece in any collection.
  • Guaranteed acquisition — there is no random drop here. You save up 150 Champion's Seals and buy the mount from a vendor. It is only a matter of time.
  • Farm rewards in parallel — while you save up Seals, the tournament grounds offer other mounts as well: Argent Warhorse, Quel'dorei Steed (Alliance), Swift Red Wind Rider (Horde), as well as battle pets and tabards.
  • Account-wide — once purchased, the mount appears in the collection of all your characters.

How to Reach the Argent Tournament

The Argent Tournament grounds are located in the northeast of Icecrown, to the north of Sindragosa's Fall.

  1. Travel to Dalaran in Northrend. The portal to old Dalaran can be found in the Chamber of the Guardian (current Dalaran in The War Within) or through portal mages in your faction's capital
  2. In Dalaran, find the flight master and speak with Jean-Pierre Poulain, who stands next to him. He offers a free flight to the tournament grounds
  3. An alternative route is to fly on your own mount from Dalaran to the northeast of Icecrown

How to Obtain

Getting the Argent Hippogryph is not a one-time run but daily work at the Argent Tournament grounds. You will have to complete a quest chain, earn the title of Champion and accumulate 150 Seals.

Stage 1: Aspirant

  1. Arrive at the Argent Tournament grounds and speak with the representative of your race
  2. Accept the introductory quests — you will receive the rank of Aspirant
  3. Complete the daily Aspirant quests, earning Aspirant's Seals
  4. Collect 15 Aspirant's Seals and accept the duel quest for the rank of Valiant

Stage 2: Valiant

  1. After winning the duel you will receive the rank of Valiant
  2. Complete the daily Valiant quests (4 quests per day, 5 Valiant's Seals)
  3. Collect 25 Valiant's Seals — this takes about 5 days
  4. Accept the duel quest for the rank of Champion of your racial faction

Stage 3: Champion

  1. After winning the duel you become a Champion of your racial faction
  2. Daily Champion quests open up, rewarding Champion's Seals
  3. Each day you can earn from 6 to 11 Champion's Seals depending on the number of available quests
  4. Additional Seals can be obtained in the Trial of the Champion dungeon on Heroic difficulty — 3 Seals per run
  5. Save up 150 Seals and buy the mount from the quartermaster of your racial faction in the tent at the tournament grounds

Stage 4: Expanding the Farm (optional)

After earning the title of Champion of one faction, you can become a Champion of the other racial factions of your side. Each new faction opens additional daily quests and increases your daily Seal income. When you become a Champion of all five racial factions, you earn the title of Crusader and access to even more quests.

How Long the Farm Takes

The time to get the mount depends on your progress in the Argent Tournament quest chain.

Stage Duration
Aspirant → Valiant 3–5 days
Valiant → Champion 5 days
Saving 150 Champion's Seals 14–25 days
Total about 22–35 days

Exact timing depends on the number of available quests. If you are already a Crusader (Champion of all five racial factions), your daily Seal income is higher and the farm speeds up.

Optimizing the Farm

Daily Routine

At max level (80 in The War Within) all Argent Tournament quests take 15–20 minutes. Enemies die instantly, and the mounted duel quests are resolved in mere seconds.

  1. Pick up all available quests from the faction representatives in the tents and from the central quest givers
  2. Complete the mob-killing quests — at level 80 this takes minutes
  3. Win the mounted duels — at max level it is enough to simply attack your opponent, ignoring the shield and lance mechanics
  4. Turn in all quests and choose the purse as your reward — it guarantees gold and has a chance to contain an extra Champion's Seal

Trial of the Champion Dungeon

Trial of the Champion on Heroic difficulty rewards 3 Champion's Seals per run. At level 80 the dungeon is cleared solo in 3–5 minutes. This is a good bonus to the daily quests — an extra 3 Seals every day.

Multiple Characters

Champion's Seals are bound to the character, while the mount is account-wide. However, farming on several characters in parallel makes little sense: Seals cannot be transferred between characters, and each alt must complete the entire chain from scratch. It is easier to focus on one character and methodically save up Seals.

Speeding Up via the Crusader Title

If you plan to buy several mounts from the Argent Tournament, first become a Crusader — a Champion of all five racial factions of your side. The Crusader title opens additional daily quests that increase your daily Seal income to 10–14.

Tips

1

Tabard of the Argent Crusade — after earning the Crusader title you can buy the inv_shirt_guildtabard_01Tabard of the Argent Crusade, which teleports you straight to the tournament grounds. This saves time on daily flights.

2

Choose the purse — when turning in Champion quests always take the coin pouch as your reward. It contains an extra Seal with a certain chance, which speeds up your accumulation.

3

Don't forget the Heroic dungeon — the 3 extra Seals per day from Trial of the Champion noticeably cut your total farm time.

4

Start with your native faction — the Aspirant → Valiant → Champion quest chain is tied to your racial faction. Start with your race's faction to unlock the Champion quests faster.

5

Other tournament mounts — while you save up Seals, take a look at the full catalog of Argent Tournament mounts. More than ten different mounts are available, including racial and faction variants. If you are a collector, plan your purchase order in advance.

6

Outdated content, no trouble — the Argent Tournament belongs to the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (2008). On a level 80 character, all the quests, duels and the Trial of the Champion dungeon are completed without any difficulty.
