Overview

Azure Netherwing Drake

Game iconAzure Netherwing Drake is a flying mount added in The Burning Crusade expansion. It is one of six netherdrakes you can earn through reputation with the Netherwing faction. The drake stands out with its rich azure scale coloring and the signature semi-transparent effect shared by all of Outland's netherdrakes.

To obtain this mount, you need to reach Exalted reputation with the Netherwing. The first drake is free upon completing the final quest chain, and the other five colors can be purchased for 200 gold from Drake Dealer Hurlunk at Netherwing Ledge in Shadowmoon Valley.

Why You Want This Mount

  • An iconic drake of the TBC era — netherdrakes were among the first flying mounts in WoW history and are still prized by collectors for their unique model with semi-transparent wings
  • Six colors for one reputation — reaching Exalted unlocks access to six mounts at once: azure, cobalt, onyx, purple, veridian and violet. The first is free, the rest cost 200 gold each
  • Account-wide — once obtained, the mount appears in the collection of all your characters, regardless of faction and class
  • The "Leading the Cavalry" achievement — collecting all six netherdrakes counts toward the Leading the Cavalry achievement
  • Guaranteed acquisition — unlike most rare mounts, there is no random drop here. Grind the reputation and the drake is yours

How to Start Grinding Reputation

All Netherwing reputation work takes place in the southeastern part of Shadowmoon Valley in Outland.

  1. Travel to Outland through the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands or via the portal in your faction's capital.
  2. Fly to Shadowmoon Valley and find Mordenai, who roams the fields near Netherwing Ledge among the rockflayers. His approximate coordinates are 62, 59.
  3. Pick up the quest Kindness — you need to feed 8 adult netherwing drakes by killing rockflayers next to them.
  4. Continue the quest chain from Mordenai. It includes several consecutive quests and ends with Ally of the Netherwing, which moves your reputation from Hated straight to Neutral (+42,000 reputation points).
  5. After reaching Neutral, you gain access to Netherwing Ledge — a floating island in the southeastern corner of the zone, home to the Dragonmaw camp and the daily quests.

Daily Quests by Reputation Level

With each new reputation level, additional quests open up. All previous quests remain available.

Neutral

Friendly

  • Resource-gathering quests tied to your profession (mining, skinning, herbalism, rogue poison)
  • Each quest grants about 250 reputation

Honored

  • Additional quests, including flying over the enemy camp and gathering supplies
  • At Honored, about 7 daily quests are available at once, yielding around 2,000–3,000 reputation per day

Revered

  • One more quest opens up — a group quest against an elite enemy (in 2026, at level 80 it is killed without a group)
  • Total daily reputation gain reaches 3,000+ points

Egg Farming — the Fast Track to Exalted

The most effective way to speed up the grind is collecting Game iconNetherwing Egg. Each egg can be turned in to Yarzill the Merc at Netherwing Ledge through the "Accepting All Eggs" quest for +250 reputation points.

Eggs spawn in three areas:

  • Netherwing Mines — up to 6 eggs at once. The first 4 spawn 1–1.5 hours after being collected, the rest after 2–2.5 hours
  • Netherwing Ledge (surface) — up to 4 eggs at once. They spawn 2–3 hours after being collected
  • Dragonmaw Fortress — up to 2 eggs at once. They spawn about 1.5–2 hours later

Eggs also occasionally drop from mobs on the island and from herb nodes (Netherbloom). With active egg farming you can cut the grind down to a few days instead of two weeks on dailies alone.

To make finding eggs easier, it is recommended to install the HandyNotes — Netherwing Eggs addon, which marks all spawn points on the map.

How Long the Grind Takes

From Neutral to Exalted you need to earn 42,000 reputation points.

Method Approximate time
Daily quests only 12–14 days
Dailies + egg farming 5–7 days
Aggressive all-day egg farming 2–3 days

Final Quest Chain at Exalted

Once your reputation hits Exalted, a final story chain awaits:

  1. The quest Kneel Before Zuluhed — you are sent to Overlord Mor'ghor.
  2. The quest Lord Illidan Stormrage — a cutscene with Illidan plays out, who exposes your cover. Yarzill teleports you to Shattrath.
  3. In Shattrath you are met by Bartholo, who offers you a choice of one of the six netherdrakes for free. If you want the azure one specifically — choose the quest The Foreman Blackwood.

The other five drakes can be bought from Drake Dealer Hurlunk at Netherwing Ledge for 200 gold each.

Tips

1

At level 80 everything is instant — mobs at Netherwing Ledge die in one hit, group quests are done without a group. The only limiter is the spawn timer of daily quests and eggs.

2

Fly around the mines regularly — eggs spawn in the mines most often. Do a sweep of the mines every 30–40 minutes if you are farming actively.

3

Don't forget the profession quests — if your character has mining, skinning, herbalism, or if you play a rogue, additional daily reputation quests are available to you.

4

Combine it with other activities — start the daily quests, collect eggs, and between spawns do something else. This reputation doesn't demand constant attention.

5

Buy all six at once — if you need the full collection for the achievement, prepare 1,000 gold (5 drakes at 200 gold each). At max level this is a symbolic amount.

6

Use the portal to Shattrath — Shattrath is the most convenient place to reach Shadowmoon Valley from. The portal is available in the capitals of both factions.
