Blue Hawkstrider
Overview

Blue Hawkstrider is one of the four basic blood elf racial mounts that came into the game with The Burning Crusade expansion (patch 2.0.1). It is a large flightless bird with bright blue-turquoise plumage and a long crest — a classic look the developers created specifically for Silvermoon and its residents.
The mount is sold for 1 gold by the hawkstrider breeder Winaestra in Silvermoon City; the vendor previously stood by the gates in the stable. Blood elves buy it without any additional requirements, while the rest of the Horde races have to raise reputation with Silvermoon City to Exalted. In patch 12.0 the mount is fully available and has not been changed in any way.
Why You Want This Mount
- Blood elf racial mount — the Blue Hawkstrider is part of the basic set of four colors together with the
Red Hawkstrider,
Black Hawkstrider, and
Purple Hawkstrider. This color is mandatory for a complete collection of Horde racial mounts - Cheap purchase — 1 gold, one of the most budget-friendly ways to add a mount to your collection at any level
- Counts toward meta achievements — the mount counts for quantity rewards such as Leading the Cavalry and Mountain o' Mounts
- Account-bound — after purchase the mount is automatically unlocked on all your Horde characters, and through allied races and a faction change it becomes available on the Alliance as well
- A reason to buy Winaestra's entire stock — while at the vendor, it is convenient to immediately grab all four basic colors and three swift variants, closing out the racial collection in a single trip
How to Reach the Vendor
With the release of Midnight, Winaestra was relocated; if she used to be in the stable outside Silvermoon, now she is inside the city. Roughly at these coordinates 67.2 66.0
Silvermoon Reputation for Non-Elves
For all Horde races except blood elves, Silvermoon City is locked until Exalted — this is the longest step in getting the hawkstrider. The grind will take a few hours, but the process does not require any specific content.
Main Ways to Raise Reputation
- Argent Tournament — daily quests in Icecrown on the tournament grounds give reputation points for a chosen capital. After earning the Champion of Silvermoon achievement, an additional reputation source opens up along with access to the elite hawkstrider vendor Trellis Morningsun
- Capital tabards — get the
Silvermoon City Tabard from Magister Nizara in Silvermoon City. With the tabard, all reputation earned in Heroic dungeons and Mythic+ goes toward Silvermoon
Buying the Mount
- Stand next to Winaestra
- Right-click to open the dialog and switch to the trade tab
- Find the
Blue Hawkstrider in the list and confirm the purchase for 1 gold - Open the item from your inventory — the mount is learned automatically and appears in the "Hawkstriders" section of the collections journal (the C key)
- If you do not have the riding skill yet,
Apprentice Riding is unlocked automatically at level 10 in the current patch; you do not need to pay or visit a trainer separately
What Else You Can Buy on the Same Visit
Winaestra sells all four basic hawkstriders at the same price and with the same conditions. If you are building the racial collection, it makes sense to grab the whole set for 4 gold:
In addition to the basic ones, she also sells three swift (epic) variants for 10 gold each:
Swift Pink Hawkstrider,
Swift Green Hawkstrider, and
Swift Purple Hawkstrider. For the white swift one (
Swift White Hawkstrider) you have to go into the Heroic version of Magisters' Terrace — that is a separate farm.
Tips
1
Buy it right after level 10 — there is no point in delaying the purchase. Any character will have a single gold after the first couple of quests, and the mount unlocks for the whole account immediately
2
If you are not a blood elf but have a blood elf alt — it is cheaper and faster to buy the mount on the alt. Creating a blood elf character and grabbing all four basic colors takes less than an hour. This is many times faster than farming Exalted with Silvermoon from scratch
3
Check your reputation before the trip — a common mistake among non-blood-elf Horde players is showing up at Honored and discovering that Winaestra will not sell the mount. Silvermoon City must be exactly at Exalted
4
Combine it with buying other hawkstriders — while you are at the vendor, grab all four basic and all three swift colors. The total purchase comes to 34 gold, and you close out an entire section of Horde racial mounts in one visit
5
Linked pet collection — near Winaestra, the
Hawkstrider Egg is sometimes sold, which gives the Egbert hawkstrider hatchling for the battle pet collection. If you are a collector, do not forget about this item
6
The mount unlocks on the Alliance too — through allied races and a paid faction transfer, the Blue Hawkstrider becomes available to Alliance characters on the same account

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
