Fear — Transmog Set Guide

Fear is an epic-quality one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with patch 4.3 of the Cataclysm expansion. It is the first visible stage of the famous rogue legendary dagger chain "Fangs of the Father," and only rogues can wear its appearance.

The blade is rendered in a dark crimson-and-black palette with a serrated edge and a spiked guard — the model echoes the look of Deathwing and the final raid of Cataclysm. Fear forms a pair with the dagger Vengeance: together they make up the "Jaws of Retribution" set. Fear is worn in the right hand and Vengeance in the left, and the two blades are nearly mirror images of each other.

For a transmog collector this is the first of the three appearances in the legendary chain. Later the blades transform into The Sleeper and The Dreamer, and finally into Golad, Twilight of Aspects and Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages. Each stage unlocks a separate appearance for the collection.

Fear is a quest reward, not a drop. You can obtain it only by completing the early part of the rogue legendary chain "Fangs of the Father."

• The dagger is awarded by the quest The Deed is Done — the seventh step of the chain. Along with Fear you receive its paired blade, Vengeance.
• The quest is completed at Wrathion in the Ravenholdt Manor in the Hillsbrad Foothills. Wrathion is a young black dragon who guides the entire chain and upgrades your blades at every stage.
• The chain is available to rogues only. The class is a hard requirement: the quests are inaccessible on other classes.
• At its peak the chain is tied to the raid Dragon Soul: individual steps require pickpocketing Hagara the Stormbinder and loot from Deathwing himself.
• The final quest of the chain — Patricide — awards the already legendary blades. Some raid steps cannot be done in Raid Finder; you need Normal or Heroic mode.

Today the entire chain can be soloed. Dragon Soul is easily cleared by a single character of level 80+, so the only real restriction is having a rogue and the time for 13 quests.

• It fits dark rogue looks in a crimson-and-black palette — the blade ties in with the rogue plate set from Dragon Soul.
• It looks great paired with Vengeance: mirrored blades in both hands give a whole, finished appearance.
• It harmonizes with looks themed around Deathwing and the Twilight's Hammer — the crimson-and-black palette is built around the same theme.
• It contrasts with light cloth or leather armor — a debatable but expressive choice for "assassin from the shadows" looks.
• The restrained, glow-free appearance suits anyone assembling a "realistic" look without magical effects.
