Get Fire-Etched Dagger

Overview

Fire-Etched Dagger

Game iconFire-Etched Dagger is a one-handed dagger of rare quality from the Cataclysm expansion. It is a short blade with a dark edge traced by smoldering fiery runes, which gives it its name. The warm red-orange palette and neat hilt make it a compact weapon with a fire-and-elements theme.

By its stats this is a caster weapon: the dagger grants intellect and was therefore historically used by mages, warlocks, priests, shamans, and druids early in leveling. Today its parameters are long outdated, and all interest in the item is purely cosmetic: the compact model with fiery engravings looks great in low- and mid-level transmog sets.

The dagger does not drop from bosses and is not sold by vendors — it is crafted by blacksmiths. This makes the item available to anyone who has leveled blacksmithing or knows a craftsman.

Source

The Fire-Etched Dagger is created through the blacksmithing profession. The recipe belongs to the Cataclysm branch and is learned from the blacksmithing trainer — there is no need to hunt for a separate Game iconplans on the auction house or as a drop, and the training costs a token amount.

Crafting the dagger requires the following reagents:

  • Game iconElementium Bar — 20 pieces. The bars are smelted from elementium ore, which is mined in Cataclysm zones.
  • Game iconVolatile Earth — 12 pieces. Drops from ore veins and from elemental earth creatures.
  • Game iconVolatile Fire — 4 pieces. Drops from elemental fire creatures and from some Cataclysm ore veins.

The finished dagger becomes Bind on Equip, so for transmog you need to craft it yourself or receive it from a blacksmith directly — after the trade the item binds to the recipient. There is no limit on the number of crafts: with reagents on hand, the dagger can be made at any time.

Who it suits visually

  • Harmonizes with looks in a red-orange palette — fire-themed sets and cloaks in warm shades.
  • Suits mages and warlocks assembling a "fiery" look without bulky effects on the weapon.
  • Fitting for starter low-level kits, where large glowing blades look out of place.
  • Contrasts with cold blue-white armor — a debatable but expressive accent on a warm weapon.
  • Pairs with Cataclysm leather and cloth sets in earthy and crimson tones.

Tips

1

The fastest path to the dagger is to ask a blacksmith to craft it: the recipe is common for this profession, since it is learned directly from the trainer.

2

If you are leveling blacksmithing yourself, keep the reagents on hand: 20 elementium bars, 12 volatile earth, and 4 volatile fire — all of this is covered by ordinary ore mining in Cataclysm zones.

3

Volatile fire drops less often than the other components, so start gathering with it specifically to avoid idle time.

4

The dagger binds on equip, but not on crafting — a blacksmith can craft it and hand it to you, and the binding will happen on your end.

5

For transmog it is enough to add the dagger's appearance to your appearance collection once, after which the item itself need not be kept.

6

If you are assembling fiery looks in parallel, take a look at the masterfully crafted elementium spellblade from the same crafting branch — the two blades cover two "fiery" weapon options at once.
