MoP Classic Marksmanship Hunter — Guide (Phase 5)
About the Class
Marksmanship Hunter is a ranged physical DPS built around
Chimera Shot,
Aimed Shot and the
Steady Focus buff. The mastery
Mastery: Wild Quiver occasionally adds free shots.
The resource is Focus, generated mainly by
Steady Shot, and spent on Chimera Shot, Aimed Shot,
Arcane Shot and
Multi-Shot. In a raid it delivers very strong single-target burst and the best execute phase among hunters. The spec is fully viable, but it falls behind Survival on sustained damage and is the weakest of the three on AoE.
Strengths
- Excellent single-target burst, especially in the
Rapid Fire and
Careful Aim windows. - Very high damage in the execute phase through
Kill Shot and Aimed Shot. - Brings
Trueshot Aura to the raid. - A full set of control and safety tools:
Binding Shot,
Misdirection,
Feign Death,
Deterrence. - Easy to gear in the early phases and handles solo play well.
Weaknesses
- Very weak AoE and two-target damage.
- Requires fussing with a pet for its aura and its damage.
- The rotation is cast-bound and suffers badly from movement without
Glyph of Aimed Shot. - Performs poorly in weak gear; it needs a high item level.
- Few defensive abilities and almost no self-healing.
Stat Priority
- 1Agility
- 2Hit Rating (up to 7.5%)
- 3Expertise (up to 7.5%)
- 4Critical Strike Rating
- 5Haste
- 6Mastery
Both 2550-rating caps are mandatory: a missed shot deals no damage and generates no Focus, and past the expertise cap shots stop being dodged.
