Iska's Mawrat Leash
Overview

Iska's Mawrat Leash is an item that teaches the
Colossal Plaguespew Mawrat mount. This is a ground mount added to World of Warcraft in patch 9.2 "Eternity's End" (Shadowlands). Visually it is a massive, shaggy rodent in a sickly green hue with protruding fangs — an oversized copy of the ordinary Maw rats that infest Torghast.
The description reads: "These rodents became Iska's famed scouts — they surveyed the land and spread her plague throughout the Maw. Wherever they appear, only destruction follows." The leash drops from the rare creature Rhuv, Gorger of Ruin in the Endless Sands of Zereth Mortis. Rhuv is the mount of the rare Iska, Outrider of Ruin, and getting it is no easy task: the spawn point is shared with two other rares, and the mount's drop chance is low.
Why You Want This Mount
- A rare collectible model — the sickly green shaggy rodent stands out among standard mounts and perfectly complements the Maw theme
- One of four giant rats — together with the
Colossal Umbrahide Mawrat, the
Colossal Ebonclaw Mawrat and the
Colossal Soulshredder Mawrat, it forms a collection of powerful rodents from patch 9.2 - An easy kill at max level — the fight itself is simple; the main difficulty lies precisely in finding an active spawn
- Available account-wide — once obtained, the mount unlocks on all characters, regardless of faction and class
- Achievement progress — Dune Dominance
- Perfect for themed looks — the mount fits naturally with Maw armor sets, Necrolord gear and the dark sets of the Shadowlands
How to Obtain
The route to the mount involves getting into Zereth Mortis, finding an active spawn in the Endless Sands and fighting two creatures in sequence — first Rhuv, then Iska.
- Unlock access to Zereth Mortis. To do this you need to complete the main Shadowlands storyline and Chapter 1 of the "Eternity's End" campaign
- Fly to the Endless Sands in the northern part of the zone. The shared rare spawn point is the area around coordinates 63.2, 26.0
- Wait for the chat message: "A loud rumble sounds in the distance, and the northern sands begin to shift" — this means one of the three rares has appeared
- Check the map — an active rare will have an icon. If Rhuv, Gorger of Ruin spawned with Iska, Outrider of Ruin riding it, fly to the fight
- Fight Rhuv first — Iska will dismount and enter combat only after the rat dies. Rhuv's loot opens separately from Iska's, and only Rhuv can drop
Iska's Mawrat Leash - After the victory, finish off Iska — she additionally drops items for achievements and transmogrification
- If the mount did not drop, wait for the next spawn (the lockouts for Rhuv and Iska are separate and daily)
How to Speed Up the Spawn
Since the Endless Sands are rarely visited in later expansions, the natural spawn cycle is slow. Nonetheless, there are proven approaches.
- Kill other Zereth Mortis rares. There is an observation that actively killing rares across the zone provokes the appearance of the "dune trio", including Rhuv
- Watch the chat — when one spawns, a message automatically arrives: "A loud rumble sounds in the distance, and the northern sands begin to shift". A rare icon will also appear on the map
- Use tracking addons — Rare Scanner, HandyNotes: Zereth Mortis, SilverDragon show active rares and spawn points, including the shared circle in the dunes
- Visit the zone every few days — that is enough to check for a spawn and grab the mount if you are lucky
- Team up through the zone's general chat — in channel /4 or the LFG service players often offer a group when a rare is active
Combat Tactics
At max level (90 in Midnight) Rhuv and Iska are killed without difficulty. Still, it is useful to know their quirks.
- Rhuv, Gorger of Ruin uses the ability "Destructive Exhaust" — a dark cone in front of itself with damage and a DoT. Stand to the side or behind to avoid the hit
- While Rhuv is alive, Iska fires dark projectiles but poses no significant threat. Hit Rhuv first — only he gives a chance at the mount
- After Rhuv dies, Iska becomes a separate target with a damage buff. For tanks and healers this is not critical, but DPS specs in low gear should pull out all their burst abilities
- Healing abilities and self-healing pay off — DoT damage is noticeable if you ignore the applied effects
Farming Optimization
Daily Approach
- Once a day, check the spawn point in the dunes — even if the rare is inactive, crossing the zone often coincides with a new trigger
- If the rare is on the map but someone beat you to it and killed it — finish off Rhuv in a group, even if the tag is not yours: loot is individual, and the mount is still possible
- Destroy other Zereth Mortis rares along the way. This speeds up progress on Dune Dominance and other meta-achievements
Using Alts
- The mount is taught by an item, but Rhuv himself has a daily loot lock per character
- Bring two or three alts to the entrance of Zereth Mortis and park them at the spawn point
- When the rare appears, enter with each character in turn — this way you get several rolls from a single spawn
Using Groups
- Create or join a group through "Group Finder" by searching for "Iska" or "Rhuv"
- When an active rare is found, allies from neighboring layers can join and increase the kill speed
- For multi-farming you can arrange a rotation: one player waits at the spawn while the others kill rares across the zone to trigger the spawn
Tips
Farm Rhuv specifically, not Iska — only Rhuv drops Iska's Mawrat Leash. If you accidentally fail to finish the rat before Iska, the mount chance will not activate
Check the lockout — if Rhuv has already been killed by you this day, a repeat fight will not give a mount roll. Plan repeat visits after the server reset
Don't limit yourself to one rare — kill Iska, Reanimatrox Marzan and High Reaver Damaris along the way to close the meta-achievement
Use the portal to Oribos — via the Hold of the Forsaken's portal network it is easy to reach Zereth Mortis through Oribos and speed up daily checks of the spawn point
Don't miss the chat message — keep the chat tab open: without the notification about the "loud rumble in the dunes" you can easily miss the activation
Remember the account-wide unlock — after a lucky roll the mount appears on all your characters, so keep farming on whichever hero is most convenient
