MoP Classic Windwalker Monk — Guide (Phase 5)
About the Class
Windwalker Monk is a two-resource melee DD. Energy is spent by generators like
Jab and
Expel Harm, while chi goes into what actually hits:
Tiger Palm,
Rising Sun Kick,
Blackout Kick and
Fists of Fury.
In Mists of Pandaria Classic this is a fully viable and strong specialization, especially in multi-target fights, where
Storm, Earth, and Fire and
Rushing Jade Wind deal enormous area damage. In a raid the monk fills the mobile melee DD slot and brings two buffs at once:
Legacy of the Emperor and
Legacy of the White Tiger.
Strengths
- The most mobile class in the game:
Roll,
Chi Torpedo,
Flying Serpent Kick,
Tiger's Lust,
Transcendence. - One of the best classes for area damage.
- Decent single-target damage as well.
- Excellent survivability for a pure DD:
Touch of Karma,
Fortifying Brew,
Diffuse Magic. - Brings both
Legacy of the Emperor and
Legacy of the White Tiger to the raid.
Weaknesses
- Does either single-target or area damage, but not both at once.
- A dense rotation with high demands on execution precision.
- The optimal rotation needs ramp-up, so its burst is weaker.
- Hard-locked to both thresholds — hit and expertise.
- Stacking
Tigereye Brew makes damage very cooldown-dependent.
Stat Priority
- 1Agility
- 2Hit rating (up to 7.5%, that's 2550 rating)
- 3Expertise (up to 7.5%, that's 2550 rating)
- 4Haste
- 5Critical strike rating
- 6Mastery
Both thresholds are mandatory: until they are capped, no secondary stat is worth stacking. Draenei need 2210 hit, and races with a weapon specialization need 2210 expertise.

- Axe Specialization gives 1% expertise with axes and fist weapons — right into the threshold.

The best choice:
Synapse Springs give about 1920 agility on demand, and
Nitro Boosts add mobility even to the most mobile class in the game.
Swordguard Embroidery on the cloak fits well under your damage cooldowns.
Socket Bracer and
Socket Gloves — two extra agility gems.
Two serpent's eyes beyond the usual gem limit.
