MoP Classic Retribution Paladin — Guide (Phase 5)
About the Class
Retribution Paladin is a two-handed melee fighter that lives on the energy of the Light:
Crusader Strike,
Judgment,
Exorcism and
Hammer of Wrath build up charges, while
Templar's Verdict,
Divine Storm and
Inquisition spend them.
Sanctity of Battle turns haste into shorter cooldowns on your generators, so as your gear improves the priority becomes ever tighter. In a raid, Retribution delivers high single-target damage and brings
Blessing of Might or
Blessing of Kings,
Hand of Sacrifice,
Hand of Freedom and
Devotion Aura.
Strengths
- Scales excellently with gear thanks to
Sanctity of Battle. - Strong group buffs:
Hand of Sacrifice,
Blessing of Might,
Blessing of Kings. - Very durable thanks to
Word of Glory,
Sacred Shield and
Divine Shield. - High single-target damage.
- Brings the raid
Devotion Aura — a shared cooldown that reduces magic damage.
Weaknesses
- Falls behind many other fighters in heavy AoE.
- Highly dependent on staying in constant contact with the target.
- Gear-dependent.
- The rotation punishes misses harshly, so hit and expertise are mandatory.
Stat Priority
- 1Hit rating up to 7.5% (2550 rating at level 90)
- 2Expertise up to 7.5% (2550 rating; less for humans and dwarves with their racial specialization)
- 3Strength
- 4Haste
- 5Mastery
- 6Critical Strike rating
A miss is a lost global cooldown and lost charges of the Light's energy, so hit and expertise are capped first. After that the best secondary stat is haste: through
Sanctity of Battle it cuts the cooldowns of your generators. Critical Strike is reforged away first.
