MoP Classic Restoration Shaman — Guide (Phase 5)
About the Class
Restoration Shaman is a mana-based raid healer built around AoE healing on stacked groups:
Healing Rain,
Chain Heal and
Healing Stream Totem.
Riptide is the most mana-efficient heal and at the same time what makes
Chain Heal strong, while
Earth Shield covers the tank. In raid cooldowns there is almost no competition:
Spirit Link Totem,
Healing Tide Totem and
Bloodlust/
Heroism. Gear is shared with Elemental, so the second DPS spec is assembled for free.
Strengths
- Totems and utility spells for any occasion, right down to dispelling effects with
Purify Spirit. - Powerful unique raid cooldowns:
Spirit Link Totem,
Healing Tide Totem,
Ascendance. - Best-in-class AoE healing on a stacked raid through
Healing Rain and
Chain Heal. - Gear shared with Elemental — one set for healing and damage.
- Brings the raid
Bloodlust/
Heroism,
Wind Shear and
Grounding Totem.
Healing Stream Totem gives strong and effectively free output on a short cooldown.
Weaknesses
- Heals a spread-out raid poorly:
Chain Heal and
Healing Rain require stacked groups. - You can heal the tank, but it costs more mana than dedicated healers.
- Mana economy relies on casting
Lightning Bolt with
Glyph of Telluric Currents. - Leaning on
Healing Rain and
Conductivity is punished on movement fights. - Totems stay in place, and movement mechanics easily devalue them.
Stat Priority
- 1Intellect
- 2Haste up to the nearest reachable breakpoint
- 3Critical Strike rating
- 4Mastery
- 5Spirit
Restoration has no hit cap:
Spiritual Insight covers all spell hit, and Spirit at the current gear level is the weakest stat. Haste breakpoints under a 5% buff (including the elemental oath):
Healing Stream Totem — 3379, 8785, 14170, 19557;
Healing Rain and
Healing Tide Totem — 2017, 10118, 18207, 26308;
Riptide — 1345, 8085, 14846, 21596. You don't need to gather Haste beyond a reachable breakpoint — it only strains your mana.
