Overview

Sol's Magestaff

Game iconSol's Magestaff is a two-handed staff added to World of Warcraft in the Warlords of Draenor expansion (patch 6.0.2). The model is built in the distinctive draenei style: a smooth crystalline head atop a slender shaft, glowing with a cold violet light. It is a caster-oriented weapon with intellect, stamina, haste, and versatility, so it fits naturally into the looks of mages, priests, warlocks, and shamans.

The staff is named after Archmage Sol, leader of the Kirin Tor expedition that held the line at the Violet Cliffs. After the Everbloom invasion the cliffs fell, and Sol herself was infested by parasites — which is exactly who drops this staff. For a transmog collector it is a clean "magical" silhouette with no cluttered details, handy as a base for classic spellcaster looks.

Source

The staff drops in the The Everbloom dungeon — a location in Gorgrond on Draenor. The dungeon hails from Warlords of Draenor, so today it can be cleared solo without any trouble on any class.

  • The drop source is the second-to-last boss, Archmage Sol.
  • The boss is found at the Violet Cliffs, closer to the end of the dungeon route.
  • Before the boss you encounter a dangerous foe, the Infested Icecaller — at the current level it is no longer a threat, but back in the day her "Ice Lance" had to be interrupted.
  • The staff drops in three color variants depending on difficulty: violet on Normal, red on Heroic, and pink on Mythic.
  • You can enter as many times as you like — there are no weekly lockouts on this old dungeon, so farm until the color you want drops.

The fastest way to farm is through the Dungeon Finder on Normal difficulty, or by opening the dungeon directly and running straight to Archmage Sol. At the max level of 90 in the Midnight expansion, the whole run takes just a few minutes.

Who It Suits Visually

  • It suits mage looks in a violet-and-blue palette: the crystalline head echoes the themes of the frost and arcane schools.
  • It harmonizes with draenei and Kirin Tor sets — the staff originally belonged to a Kirin Tor mage.
  • The red Heroic variant fits "fiery" and demonic warlock looks.
  • The pink Mythic variant is a bold accent for bright, unconventional priest or shaman looks.
  • A neutral silhouette without bulky elements slots easily into restrained cloth sets without visual clutter.

Tips

1

Farm via the Dungeon Finder or a direct entry on Normal difficulty — that is the fastest way to re-enter.

2

For all three colors, plan on one Archmage Sol kill on each difficulty.

3

At the max level of 90 the dungeon is soloable; you need no healer or group.

4

Any class clears it quickly, but mobile specs with dashes run the path to the boss noticeably faster.

5

Don't confuse the source: the staff is dropped specifically by the boss Archmage Sol, not by the Infested Icecaller before her.

6

If you only want the appearance, a single Normal-difficulty run for the violet variant is enough.

7

The acquired staff is added to your transmog collection the moment you pick it up, even if you later sell the item.
