Overview

Arcanist's Manasaber

Game iconArcanist's Manasaber is a flying mount from the Legion expansion, rewarded for completing the grand story campaign in Suramar. This elegant manasaber with magical wings has a unique ability: when summoned in the city of Suramar, your character is automatically given Game iconMasquerade, transforming you into a Nightborne. The mount was added in patch 7.1.0 and can still be obtained today.

Why You Want It

  • One of the most beautiful flying mounts in the manasaber family, with a unique magical animation.
  • Automatic disguise as a Nightborne when used in the city of Suramar — no need to apply a separate disguise anymore.
  • Completing the entire Suramar story campaign simultaneously unlocks the Nightborne allied race (provided you are Exalted with The Nightfallen).
  • Legion content is long outdated and can be soloed in a few hours at max level.

Requirements

  • A character of any level from 10 and up (max level is recommended for fast completion).
  • Completion of the achievement Good Suramaritan — the main Suramar story campaign.
  • Completion of the achievement Insurrection — the final part of the campaign, made up of 9 chapters.
  • Killing Gul'dan in the The Nighthold raid on any difficulty (including Raid Finder).
  • Exalted reputation with the The Nightfallen faction (the reputation requirement for intermediate stages was removed in patch 7.3, but Exalted is needed for the final quest).

Alternative method: Nightborne race characters can obtain this mount for free from First Arcanist Thalyssra in Shal'Aran without completing the quest chain.

How to Get There

Suramar is a zone in the Broken Isles from the Legion expansion.

  1. Open Dalaran (Legion) via the portal in your faction's capital.
  2. Talk to Archmage Khadgar in Dalaran to receive the introductory quest Khadgar's Discovery and unlock the zone.
  3. Follow the storyline until you reach Shal'Aran — the secret refuge of the Nightfallen, which will serve as your base throughout the campaign.

Mount Source

The mount is the reward for the quest Fate of the Nightborne. This quest is available from Chief Telemancer Oculeth in Shal'Aran after meeting all the prerequisites. The chain looks like this:

  1. Complete the Good Suramaritan achievement → 2. Complete the Insurrection achievement → 3. Kill Gul'dan in The Nighthold → 4. Turn in the quest The Nighthold: Lord of the Shadow Council to Khadgar right inside the raid → 5. Complete the scenario The Nighthold: The Eye of Aman'Thul → 6. Return to Shal'Aran to Oculeth → 7. Finish the quest Fate of the Nightborne and receive the mount.

Step-by-Step Guide

Stage 1: The Good Suramaritan Achievement

This is a meta-achievement that bundles together all the story chapters of the base Suramar campaign (patch 7.0). The chapters are completed in sequence:

  1. Nightfallen but Not Forgotten — an introductory chain of 40 quests, getting to know Thalyssra and Shal'Aran.
  2. Waning Crescent — helping the refugees in the district of the same name.
  3. Blood and Wine — scouting the vineyards and confronting demons.
  4. The Art of Statecraft — political intrigue at Elisande's court.
  5. A Growing Crisis — strengthening the resistance.
  6. Turning the Seasons — the final chapter of the main campaign.

In addition, you must complete five side chains:

  • Breaking the Lightbringer — quests in western Suramar.
  • A Standout Botanist — helping in the Moon Guard's garden.
  • The Jarl of Jandvik — quests on the coast.
  • Order in Tel'anor — clearing out ancient ruins.
  • Moon Guard Stronghold — a chain in the stronghold of the same name.

At max level, this entire stage takes roughly 4–5 hours.

Stage 2: The Insurrection Achievement

The final part of the campaign, added in patch 7.1. It consists of 9 chapters, completed in sequence:

  1. Isolation — help Scarleth and Master Devlyn evacuate the residents of the Waning Crescent.
  2. Missing in Action — rescue the prisoners from Astravar Harbor by infiltrating it disguised as a captive.
  3. Tyranny of the Merchants — find and free Vanthir from a magical prison.
  4. An Elven Problem — meet with Tyrande Whisperwind, Lady Liadrin and Vereesa Windrunner in the war camp.
  5. Preparing for War — reroute the ley lines to power Shal'Aran, settle disputes between the Horde and the Alliance, and train the Nightfallen army.
  6. March on Suramar — lead the united elven forces along the Grand Promenade to the Path of Fate.
  7. Elisande's Reply — overcome Elisande's time trap.
  8. Breaching the Nighthold — rescue Ly'leth from captivity and create protection against fel.
  9. As Strong as Our Will — destroy the ley lines to break through the barrier of the Sanctum of Order, and prepare for the assault on The Nighthold.

At max level, this stage takes around 2–3 hours.

Stage 3: Killing Gul'dan and the Final Quests

  1. Head into the The Nighthold raid. At max level you can enter solo on any difficulty — the raid clears in 15–20 minutes.
  2. Kill the final boss, Gul'dan.
  3. After the victory, Khadgar appears — turn in the quest The Nighthold: Lord of the Shadow Council to him. Important: you must turn it in to Khadgar inside the raid, not in Dalaran.
  4. Complete the short scenario The Nighthold: The Eye of Aman'Thul.
  5. Return to Shal'Aran and talk to Chief Telemancer Oculeth.
  6. Accept the quest Fate of the Nightborne, step into the portal, and watch the final cutscene at the Nightwell.
  7. Receive your Arcanist's Manasaber!

Farming Optimization

  • Completion time: the full chain from start to finish takes 6–8 hours of pure play time. There are no longer any time gates — all chapters are available back to back.
  • Character level: at max level all quests and the raid are cleared instantly. Legion mobs and bosses die in 1–2 hits.
  • Fast travel: as you progress through the campaign, you unlock teleports around Suramar through Oculeth. Use them to save time.
  • Soloing the raid: The Nighthold is easily soloed on any difficulty. Normal difficulty is recommended for speed.
  • Reputation: patch 7.3 removed most reputation requirements for completing the chain. If you are short on reputation for individual quests, complete a few world quests in Suramar.

Tips

1

Be sure to turn in the quest The Nighthold: Lord of the Shadow Council to Khadgar right inside The Nighthold after killing Gul'dan. If you leave the raid without turning in the quest, you will have to enter again.

2

If the quest Fate of the Nightborne does not appear at Oculeth, check your achievement log to confirm that both achievements — Good Suramaritan and Insurrection — are fully completed.

3

Nightborne race characters can obtain the mount for free from First Arcanist Thalyssra in Shal'Aran — no quest chain required.

4

Completing the Suramar campaign simultaneously unlocks the Nightborne race for creating new characters — a double benefit.

5

Install the TomTom addon or use in-game navigation — some quests send you to hard-to-reach corners of Suramar.

6

Stock up on Ancient Mana in the early stages: you will need it for offerings to the Nightfallen and for activating teleports.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
