Overview

Armored Bloodwing

Game iconArmored Bloodwing is an epic flying mount added in patch 5.3.0 of the Mists of Pandaria expansion. It is a massive armored bloodwing bat that was originally sold in the in-game Battle.net Shop for $25 USD.

The item description reads: "This monstrous, flesh-feasting bat is the perfect companion for an excursion of death and destruction." According to lore, bloodwings inhabit the misty jungle islands of the South Seas, where they reign undisputed over the night sky. This particular specimen has been trained as a mount and clad in armor made from a rare ore known as "heavy metal."

Why You Want This Mount

  • Unique model — the Armored Bloodwing is a massive bat covered in armor plating. It is one of the few mounts with this kind of design, making it stand out in any collection
  • Hovering flight — the mount has no ground walking animation. Instead, it hovers above the ground, keeping its flight pose even in no-fly zones. This gives it a distinctive menacing look
  • Available on all characters — once obtained, the mount becomes available on all current and future characters on your Battle.net account
  • Scaling speed — the mount's speed adapts to your riding skill. With Master Riding, its flight speed is 310%
  • Collector value — the mount is no longer sold in the shop, making it relatively rare. According to Wowhead, only about 33% of players own it

How to Obtain

The Armored Bloodwing was originally sold in the in-game Battle.net Shop (Blizzard Shop) from May 30, 2013 to January 6, 2019. The mount was removed from the shop as part of the "See You Later!" promotion, when several shop mounts and pets were "retired."

A direct purchase of the mount is currently not possible. However, Blizzard occasionally brings it back through special promotions.

Appearance and Animation

The Armored Bloodwing is a large bat with dark hide covered in metal armor plates. The character sits on the creature's back, holding onto a special harness.

Animation features:

  • Hovering — the mount always hovers above the ground. It has no walking animation like ground mounts. Even in no-fly zones, the bloodwing hangs in the air, slowly flapping its wings
  • Flight — in the air, the mount shows wide wing beats typical of bats
  • Model — uses the same base model as the Bloodthirsty Dread Hunter mount, but with a unique armored texture

Tips

1

Watch for Blizzard promotions — the mount has been removed from the shop, but Blizzard has brought it back several times through partner promotions. Subscribe to the official channels so you don't miss the next opportunity

2

Check Prime Gaming — if you have an Amazon Prime subscription, periodically check the Prime Gaming section for World of Warcraft rewards. The Armored Bloodwing has already been available through this platform

3

The mount is account-wide — once obtained, the bloodwing is available on all your characters. You do not need to acquire it again on every character

4

Be aware of the hovering animation — if you prefer mounts with a ground walking animation, keep in mind that the Armored Bloodwing always hovers above the ground. This is not a bug, but a feature of the model

5

The mount counts toward achievements — the Armored Bloodwing counts toward mount-collection achievements such as "Hot Stuff!" and subsequent ones
