Armored Frostwolf
Overview

Armored Frostwolf is a rare ground mount added in patch 6.0.2 of the Warlords of Draenor expansion. It is a massive armored wolf of light grey coloring, bred to survive the harsh conditions of Frostfire Ridge. According to its mount journal description: "It is trained to survive the harsh climate of Frostfire Ridge, so it clings to you as if its life depended on it."
The mount is the reward for the The Stable Master achievement, tied to the Stables in Draenor. In addition to the mount, completing the achievement grants you the title "Stable Master".
Why You Want This Mount
- Guaranteed acquisition — the mount does not depend on a random drop. Simply complete all the achievement requirements and the reward is yours
- Unique model — an armored wolf with detailed barding and a distinctive howling animation when using /mountspecial. The mount retains the classic wolf running animation
- Title included — together with the mount you receive the title "Stable Master", which is displayed before your character's name
- Available to all characters — once obtained, the mount becomes available on every character of your account, regardless of faction
- Speed 10/10 — the mount adapts to your riding skill, providing the maximum available ground speed
How to Obtain
To get the mount you must complete the The Stable Master achievement. This requires going through an entire chain of preparatory steps in your garrison.
- Build the Stables in your garrison in Draenor. To access the garrison it is enough to start the Warlords of Draenor campaign through Chromie or while leveling through this content
- Upgrade the Stables to level 2. At this stage the
Sethe's Black Talon becomes available — an item that applies a debuff (damage taken +25%, movement speed -25%). Complete the Husbandry for the Advanced achievement by killing target NPCs while mounted on the trainable mounts with this item in your bags - Upgrade the Stables to level 3. Now the
Garn Tooth Necklace appears in the Stables — a heavier debuff (damage taken +50%, movement speed -50%) - Take the necklace in your bags and travel to Nagrand on each of the six trainable mounts
- Kill all six target NPCs while mounted on each of the six mounts (36 kills in total)
- Once all conditions are met, the achievement is credited automatically and the
Armored Frostwolf appears in your mount collection
The Six Trainable Mounts
In the garrison Stables you progressively obtain whistles to summon six trainable mounts. Each mount is used to complete daily quests and to level it up.
| Mount | Creature Type |
|---|---|
| Trained Snarler | Wolf |
| Trained Silverpelt | Talbuk |
| Trained Riverwallow | Riverbeast |
| Trained Rocktusk | Boar |
| Trained Meadowstomper | Elekk |
| Trained Icehoof | Clefthoof |
All six mounts become permanent mounts once their training is complete, which is a pleasant bonus in itself.
The Six Targets in Nagrand
Each of the listed NPCs must be killed six times — once on each trainable mount. They are all located in Nagrand.
| NPC | Coordinates |
|---|---|
| [Maimclaw] | 79.2, 71.6 |
| [Stonecrush] | 53.2, 77.6 |
| [Karak] | 69.0, 34.3 |
| [Felfly] | 63.0, 80.0 |
| [Beastslayer] | 43.0, 69.1 |
| [Thundercry] | 90.6, 23.6 |

Step-by-Step Completion Strategy
Stage 1 — Garrison Preparation
If you do not yet have a garrison in Draenor, start the Warlords of Draenor campaign. At max level (80 in The War Within) all the content is completed without difficulty. Build the Stables and start upgrading them to level 3.
Stage 2 — Training the Mounts
Every day mount-training quests are available in the Stables. You receive a whistle to summon one of the trainable animals and must complete a quest while mounted on it. Fully training all six mounts takes several days of real time.
Stage 3 — Advanced Husbandry
After upgrading the Stables to level 2, take the
Sethe's Black Talon from the Stables. Kill all six NPCs in Nagrand while mounted on each trainable mount with the talon in your bags. This credits the Husbandry for the Advanced achievement.
Stage 4 — The Stable Master
After upgrading the Stables to level 3, take the [Garn Tooth Necklace]. Repeat the procedure: kill all six NPCs while mounted on each of the six mounts, but now with the necklace in your inventory. The debuff from the necklace is more severe (+50% damage taken, -50% speed), so the fights will be noticeably harder.
Tips
The necklace must be in your bags — kills only count if the [Garn Tooth Necklace] is in your character's inventory, not in the bank. Before heading to Nagrand, make sure the item is on you
Track your progress — open the achievements window and find The Stable Master. The highlighted cells show which NPCs you have already killed on each mount
Thundercry is up high — the NPC [Thundercry] is located on an elevated plateau (coordinates 90.6, 23.6). Look for the path leading up from the eastern side
Fast respawn via grouping — if an NPC is killed by another player, create or join a group through the group finder. Switching realms resets the respawn, and you can find the target on another server
Respawn around 60 seconds — all six NPCs respawn fairly quickly. If a target is unavailable, wait a minute
At max level the debuff is not critical — at level 80 even with the +50% damage debuff you will handle Draenor enemies without problems. They are designed for level 90–100 characters
Combine the stages — if the Stables are already level 3, you can complete the "Advanced Husbandry" and "The Stable Master" achievements in parallel, saving time
Don't discard the necklace too early — the [Garn Tooth Necklace] can be safely removed from your bags after completing the achievement. If you accidentally deleted it, return to the Stables — the item can be picked up again
Six mounts are a bonus — all six trainable mounts are permanently added to your collection once their training is complete. In total you receive seven mounts: six trainable ones and the Armored Frostwolf
