Overview

Ash'adar, Harbinger of Dawn

Game iconAsh'adar, Harbinger of Dawn is an epic spectral sabertooth, the first exclusive reward of the Trading Post. The mount was added to World of Warcraft: Dragonflight alongside patch 10.0.5 in February 2023 and became the landmark gift marking the launch of the new cosmetic system. Its armor is decorated with the solar and lunar symbols of the kaldorei sentinels, and the steed itself changes color depending on the time of day — by day it gleams with the gold of the sun, by night it shimmers with the silver of the moon. The transition between forms happens at 7:00 and 19:00 server time.

You can obtain Ash'adar by fully filling the Traveler's Log bar for the corresponding Trading Post month. Later Blizzard added the mount to the in-game shop for $25 USD (March–April 2024), and since 2025 it periodically returns to the post stalls for 900 Trader's Tender.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Unique color-changing mechanic — Ash'adar is one of the few mounts whose appearance changes automatically with the time of day. The golden solar variant shifts to the silver lunar one at 7:00 and 19:00 server time without any player input
  • Kaldorei sentinel aesthetic — the armor is adorned with symbols of the sun and moon, and the predator spirit itself is drawn from night elf mythology: by legend it is the "tireless hunter who prowls the deepest shadows"
  • Versatile steed — supports both ground and flying movement. It scales to maximum riding speed and to The War Within dynamic flight
  • Account-wide binding — once obtained, Game iconAsh'adar, Harbinger of Dawn appears in the mount collection of your entire account, regardless of character faction or class
  • Collector value — this is the first Traveler's Log reward and the unofficial symbol of the Trading Post launch. The mount also appeared in Diablo IV as part of a crossover, which boosted its fame

How to Obtain

The main method is to fully fill the Traveler's Log bar during the month when Ash'adar is featured as the month's main reward. The alternative is purchasing it for 900 Trader's Tender when the mount returns to the regular stall rotation.

  1. Start with the quest Visit the Trading Post. It appears automatically after logging into the game and directs you to Stormwind, Orgrimmar, or Silvermoon.
  2. Find the trade agent at the traveler's association. Alliance — next to the Stockades in Stormwind's Mage Quarter. Horde — to the left of Grommash Hold in Orgrimmar.
  3. Open the Traveler's Log interface (key J → "Traveler's Log" tab, or via the icon in the Trading Post window)
  4. Complete the journal's monthly tasks. Each grants travel points. You need to gather 1000 points before the end of the month
  5. Make sure the chosen month is the one when Ash'adar is set as the bonus reward for filling the bar. If the mount appears in the main stall assortment, instead of filling the bar simply buy it for 900 Trader's Tender
  6. After collecting 1000 points, claim the reward from the collector's chest at the same shop agent. Ash'adar will be automatically added to your mount collection

Mount History

The monthly Trading Post rewards do not repeat back-to-back, so it is important to know the periods when Ash'adar could be obtained. If you missed every window — aim for the next February, since Blizzard traditionally brings the mount back for the anniversary of the system's launch.

Period Acquisition conditions Cost
February 2023 Traveler's Log, 1000 points Free
March 1 — April 1, 2024 Blizzard in-game shop $25 / €25
February 2025 Trading Post (permanent stall) 900 Trader's Tender
February 2026 Return for the Trading Post anniversary 900 Trader's Tender

Traveler's Log: Monthly Points

About 15–20 tasks appear in the journal each month. Each is worth from 25 to 200 travel points. For 1000 points it is enough to complete the 6–10 easiest ones, and the rest can be skipped.

  • Kill 25 raid bosses (legacy from any expansion counts) — usually 200 points
  • Kill 50 dungeon bosses (Classic and Pandaria ones work) — about 200 points
  • Complete 30 quests of any kind — 100 points
  • Complete 15 local quests — 75 points
  • Win 5 battleground scenarios or arena matches — 100 points
  • Catch 25 fish of any type — 50 points
  • Gather 50 herbs or 50 ore veins — 50 points
  • Complete the storyline of one current-expansion zone — 150–200 points

Tips for Optimizing Points

  • Combine categories: farming mobs for a "kill X creatures" task simultaneously closes the XP quest and daily-zone objectives
  • Legacy content works fully — Hammer of Doom, Karazhan, or Molten Core in 10 minutes close the dungeon-boss task
  • Check the journal on the first day of the month: if you draw PvP battleground tasks, they are more profitable to close on weekends with bonus experience
  • Gathering 1000 points takes 3–6 hours of real time for the average player and is fully achievable on a single character

Trader's Tender: How to Save Up

If Ash'adar is available in the regular Trading Post rotation, you need 900 Trader's Tender. Accumulation is slow, so plan your budget in advance.

  • 500 tender per month from the subscription — credited automatically on the 1st of each calendar month
  • 500 tender for filling the Traveler's Log — in addition to the month's bonus reward
  • Up to 1000 tender per month when both conditions are met

Thus, if Ash'adar appears in the stall, you will need to save up 900 tender. This is achievable in one full month of active play, or in two months if you skip the Journal.

Day/Night Color Change

Ash'adar's unique feature is the automatic change of appearance. The switch is tied to server time, not the player's local time zone.

  • The golden solar form is active from 07:00 to 19:00. The armor glows with warm amber, the mane and eyes burn orange
  • The silver lunar form is active from 19:00 to 07:00. The fur turns pale white, the symbols on the armor glow cold blue
  • The change requires no player action — it is enough to summon the mount during the appropriate time interval
  • Your region affects "day" and "night": European servers have their own time, North American ones have theirs. Photographing the mount in both variants is easiest in the morning and evening during in-game hours

Tips

1

Check Blizzard's announcements at the end of January — the February stall reveals are published a few days before the start of the month on the official site and in WoW news. If Ash'adar is announced as the month's reward — this is the best chance to get it for free

2

Don't spend Trader's Tender until you see the current rotation — every 1st of the month the post changes its assortment. If Ash'adar turns up on the stall for 900 tender, you will need a full reserve

3

Log in on the 1st of each month — the monthly 500 subscription tender is credited specifically on that day and is not granted retroactively, only through delayed crediting on login

4

Don't forget the "Sun and Moon" sentinel set — Ash'adar visually complements the 2023 monthly rewards. Over the 12 months of Dragonflight you could collect the full transmog set in the same style

5

Once per account — the mount stays in your collection forever after the first purchase. Repeating the purchase or completing the journal again is not required

6

Watch for the Trading Post anniversary — every February Blizzard traditionally returns the first monthly reward to the stall. If you missed 2023 and 2025, the nearest opportunity is February 2026 or 2027
