Ashenvale Chimaera is a flying mount added in patch 8.1.0 "Tides of Vengeance" of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. It is a two-headed chimaera with a distinctive purple-green coloration that drops from the rare elite Alash'anir in the Darkshore zone. The item's description reads: "The kaldorei often used Ashenvale chimaeras to destroy fortifications in battles against humans, orcs, and the undead."
The mount is both a flying and a ground mount at the same time — its behavior depends on your riding skill and current location.
Alash'anir is located in the Darkshore zone, to the northeast of Bashal'Aran. To reach it, you need to be in the Battle for Azeroth phase of this zone.
Darkshore has several temporal phases. To access the warfront rares you need the BfA phase. If you see the old version of the zone, find the NPC Zidormi (marked with a speech bubble icon on the map) and ask her to switch you to the correct timeline.
Alash'anir is on a cliff next to a whirlpool, to the northeast of the ruins of Bashal'Aran.
Make sure your character meets the minimum requirements. For comfortable farming, a character of level 50 or higher is recommended — at the current max level of 80, Alash'anir poses no challenge whatsoever.
Head to Darkshore. For the Alliance, the nearest flight point is Lor'danel. For the Horde, it's Zoram'gar Outpost. Make sure you are in the correct zone phase (the BfA phase). If necessary, talk to Zidormi to switch the timeline.
Fly to the coordinates 56.4, 30.7. Alash'anir is a large two-headed chimaera on a cliff. If the NPC is not there, it has not respawned yet — wait or switch to another character.
At the current max level the fight poses no difficulty. Kill Alash'anir and check the loot. If
Ashenvale Chimaera did not drop, you will have to try again on the next cycle.
Alash'anir resets its loot according to the Darkshore warfront cycle. Control of the zone switches between factions roughly once every two weeks. After killing the rare on one character, you need to wait for a new cycle to be able to loot it again.
The key way to increase your chances is to farm Alash'anir on multiple characters during a single cycle. Each character can loot it once per warfront cycle. The more characters of suitable level you have, the higher your total chance.
The TomCat's Tours addon greatly simplifies tracking rares in Darkshore. It shows which rares you have already killed in the current cycle and which ones you have not.
The Darkshore warfronts run on a two-week rotation cycle. Control of the zone alternates between the Alliance and the Horde. The rares are available to both factions, but the loot reset is tied to the change of control.
At a drop chance of ~5%, your chances of getting the mount are:
| Number of Attempts | Chance of Obtaining |
|---|---|
| 10 | ~40% |
| 20 | ~64% |
| 30 | ~79% |
| 50 | ~92% |
| 94 | ~99% |
Alash'anir is not faction-dependent. Unlike some other Darkshore rares that appear only when a specific faction is in control, Alash'anir is available regardless of who controls the zone
The respawn time of Alash'anir is several hours. If you arrive and it is not there, try coming back later or check on another character
Don't mix up the phases. If you do not see the BfA rares in Darkshore, you are most likely in the wrong phase. Find Zidormi on the map (the speech bubble icon) and switch
The mount is account-bound. You only need to obtain it on any one character — it will automatically appear in the mount collection of all your characters
Other Darkshore mounts. While you farm Alash'anir, it is worth killing the other rares in the zone as well — they can also drop mounts, pets, and toys.
