Overview

Blue Mechanostrider

Blue Mechanostrider is a classic Gnome racial ground mount available since the very release of World of Warcraft. It is a bipedal walking machine in a rich blue-turquoise color scheme, built by the engineers of Gnomeregan as transport for those who prefer gears and pistons over the living mounts of the other Alliance races. The mount's model is identical to the Red Mechanostrider, but it differs in body color and decorative elements.

In 2026, in the Midnight expansion, the mount is still sold by the vendor Milli Featherwhistle in Dun Morogh. The price is 1 gold with the standard riding discount applied. Gnomes and Mechagnomes buy the mount without any restrictions; the other Alliance races must reach Exalted with the Gnomeregan faction.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Plus one to your mount collection — the mount counts toward the achievements for the number of mounts collected, including Cavalier and the subsequent tiers of collector rewards. Each new mount brings you closer to unique titles and special mounts
  • Gnome racial flavor — if you play a Gnome or Mechagnome, the blue color of the mechanostrider remains one of the most popular among the Gnomeregan racial mounts and fits perfectly into the overall style of the engineering city
  • Part of the base set of four colors — together with the Red, Green and Unpainted Mechanostrider it forms the complete set of common color variants. All four mounts are sold by the same vendor and can be picked up in a single visit
  • Account-wide — after purchase the mount automatically becomes available to all Alliance characters on your account, regardless of class and race
  • Standard ground mount speed — the mount increases movement speed by +60% with Apprentice Riding or up to +100% with a higher skill, so it works as a full-fledged means of transport rather than a decorative item
  • Minimal investment — for 1 gold you get one of the cheapest entries in the mount collection. It is an excellent option for closing out achievements on a freshly leveled alt

How to Reach the Vendor

The vendor Milli Featherwhistle stands in Steelgrill's Depot — a small settlement in the central part of Dun Morogh, to the east of the village of Kharanos. Mechanostrider pens are placed around her, so she is hard to miss. Every time you approach her she happily throws up her hands and greets you — a signature detail of this NPC.

From Ironforge

  1. Open the gates of Ironforge and head out into Dun Morogh to the southwest
  2. Move along the main road through the snowy hills past Kharanos
  3. Right after Kharanos, turn east — Steelgrill's Depot is by the side of the main road
  4. Milli Featherwhistle stands next to the mechanostrider pen

From Any Zone at Level 90

At max level it is most convenient to use a hearthstone bound to Ironforge, or fly to the nearest flight master in Kharanos. From Kharanos to Steelgrill's Depot is less than a minute of flight on any flying mount.

Step-by-Step Purchase Guide

If You Play a Gnome or Mechagnome

  1. Reach character level 10
  2. Learn Apprentice Riding from a riding trainer in Ironforge or any other capital
  3. Fly or run to Steelgrill's Depot in Dun Morogh
  4. Open the inventory of Milli Featherwhistle and select the Blue Mechanostrider
  5. Pay 1 gold
  6. Use the item from your bags — the mount will be added to the collection of all Alliance characters on your account

If You Play Another Alliance Race

  1. Raise your reputation with Gnomeregan to Exalted
  2. Learn Apprentice Riding from a riding trainer
  3. Head to Milli Featherwhistle in Steelgrill's Depot
  4. Buy the Blue Mechanostrider for 1 gold. At Exalted, all the basic mechanostriders become available at once, so it makes sense to close out all four colors in one go

How to Raise Reputation with the Gnomeregan Exiles

For non-Gnomes this is the longest stage of working toward the mount. The most effective approach is to combine several methods.

Gnomeregan Tabard

The main method is farming dungeons while wearing the Gnomeregan Tabard. The tabard is sold by the faction quartermaster Senior Mechanic Tinkertub in Ironforge, in the Great Forge.

/way Ironforge 55.8 47.8 Senior Mechanic Tinkertub

While wearing the tabard, you gain reputation with Gnomeregan for every enemy kill inside dungeons from level 1 to 90. At max level, solo runs of classic dungeons take only a few minutes each, and the tabard works the whole way through:

Quests in Dun Morogh and Other Zones

Most quests in the Gnome and Dwarf starting zone grant reputation with Gnomeregan. At level 90 you can quickly run through the quests of Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, Thousand Needles and Tanaris. Quests alone are usually enough to reach Friendly; beyond that you will have to grind the reputation through dungeons.

Tips for Optimizing Reputation

  • First complete the quest chains of Dun Morogh and neighboring zones — this is a free boost up to Friendly
  • Then bring in the tabard and solo dungeon runs. In an hour or two you can realistically earn several thousand reputation points
  • Remember that the tabard only works in dungeons — in the open world and in raids it gives no gain

Other Mechanostriders from Milli Featherwhistle

If you have already made it to Steelgrill's Depot, it makes sense to close out the entire collection of colors at once. Prices are shown with the standard riding discount in the modern version of the game.

Mount Item Price Speed
Red Mechanostrider ID 8563 1 gold +60%/+100%
Blue Mechanostrider ID 8595 1 gold +60%/+100%
Green Mechanostrider ID 13321 1 gold +60%/+100%
Unpainted Mechanostrider ID 13322 1 gold +60%/+100%
Swift Green Mechanostrider ID 18772 10 gold +100%
Swift White Mechanostrider ID 18773 10 gold +100%
Swift Yellow Mechanostrider ID 18774 10 gold +100%

The swift colors require Journeyman Riding and, consequently, a higher character level. For the fast mounts themselves, the reputation and faction conditions are the same as for the regular ones.

Tips

1

Buy the whole set at once — once you reach Milli Featherwhistle, buy all four common mechanostriders right away. That is four separate mounts in your collection for 4 gold and a few minutes of time

2

Don't confuse Steelgrill's Depot with Kharanos — the vendor stands precisely in the Depot, to the east of Kharanos. Kharanos itself has no mechanostrider seller, only a riding trainer and an inn

3

A Gnome alt saves dozens of hours of reputation — for mount collectors, the fastest way to close out the mechanostriders is to create a Gnome or Mechagnome. A single visit to the vendor at low level grants access to all the basic colors at once

4

Check your riding skill before the trip — the mount cannot be used without a learned riding skill. If you are a freshly leveled alt at level 10, first visit the riding trainer in Ironforge and only then Milli Featherwhistle

5

The Gnomeregan tabard works only in dungeons — this is the most common mistake when farming reputation. In the open world, in scenarios, and in raids the tabard gives no reputation gain. It only works inside classic dungeon instances

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
