Overview

Brilliant Petalwing

Brilliant Petalwing is one of the most striking mounts of the Midnight expansion. It is a glowing winged creature resembling a giant butterfly suffused with solar and arcane energy. Its in-game description reads: "This creature shines so brightly that no darkness can ever suppress it."

The mount is the reward for the meta-achievement Light Up the Night, which requires completing a series of achievements across all four Midnight zones: Eversong Woods, Zul'Aman, Harandar, and the Voidstorm.

Why You Want This Mount

  • A unique model — a radiant butterfly with a glowing animation that has no equivalent among other mounts
  • Movement speed: +100% on the ground, +310% in the air
  • No luck involved — the mount is guaranteed for completing the achievements
  • On the way to the mount you will fully explore all the content of the four Midnight zones and earn plenty of additional rewards

Requirements

  • A level 80 character with access to the Midnight expansion zones
  • The completed Midnight story campaign (unlocks all four zones)
  • A minimum of 7 weeks of real time due to several chains gated behind weekly resets
  • No group required — every task can be done solo

Structure of the Light Up the Night Meta-Achievement

The Light Up the Night meta-achievement consists of four zone achievements, each of which includes several sub-tasks. In addition, you must complete all the side quest chains in each zone.

Zone Achievement Number of Sub-Tasks
Eversong Woods Forever Song 6
Zul'Aman Making an Amani Out of You 5+
Harandar That's Aln, Folks! 8
Voidstorm Yelling into the Voidstorm 5

Zone 1: Eversong Woods — Forever Song

Forever Song requires completing six sub-tasks:

1. Treasures of Eversong Woods

Find and collect all the hidden treasures in Eversong Woods. There are 9 treasures scattered across the zone. Use the HandyNotes addon to display the points on your map.

2. Explore Eversong Woods

Reveal all the hidden areas on the zone map. Fly over every unexplored section.

3. Bloodsong

Find and kill all 15 rare creatures in Eversong Woods. Some of them spawn on a schedule — check at different times of day.

4. Runestone Raid

Find and protect all 5 runestones in the zone. Each stone must first be charged, then you fend off a wave of enemies.

5. The Party Must Go On!

Invite representatives of all four noble factions of Silvermoon to the celebration at Saltheril's Haven. You can invite only one faction each week, so completing this takes a minimum of 4 weeks.

6. The Eternal Painting

Find and inspect all 7 painter's easels located across the zone.

Side Quests:

Complete all the side quest chains in the zone. These are optional quests that are not part of the main storyline but grant reputation and count toward the meta-achievement.

Zone 2: Zul'Aman — Making an Amani Out of You

Making an Amani Out of You requires completing the following sub-tasks:

1. Treasures of Zul'Aman

Find and collect all the hidden treasures in Zul'Aman.

2. The Tallest Tree

Find and defeat all the rare creatures in the zone.

3. Zul'Aman

Fully reveal the map of Zul'Aman by visiting every hidden area.

4. Bounty: Plenty and Prosperity!

Take part in the Bounty world event across all the new Midnight zones. The event runs regularly — watch the timer on the map.

5. Altar of Blessings: Servant of the Sacred Snack

Activate all 24 buff effects at the Altar of Blessings. Blessings unlock through quests, fishing, killing the world boss, and buying items from vendors. You won't be able to collect all 24 effects in a single visit — come back as you progress.

Side Quests:

Complete all the side quest chains in Zul'Aman.

Zone 3: Harandar — That's Aln, Folks!

That's Aln, Folks! is the largest zone achievement, including 8 sub-tasks:

1. Treasures of Harandar

Find and collect all the hidden treasures of Harandar.

2. Explore Harandar

Fully reveal the map of Harandar.

3. I'll Turn Over Every Leaf

Kill all the rare creatures in the zone.

4. Dust It Off

Find and collect all 120 glowing moths hidden across the zone. Some of the moths only become available once you reach a certain Renown level with the Hara'ti faction: all spawn points unlock at Renown level 9, and the minimap display unlocks at level 11.

5. Haranir Chronicler

Discover all the lore objects in each of the 7 storylines of the Legends of Haranir world event. The event is tied to the weekly reset — a minimum of 7 weeks to complete.

6. Legends Never Die

Complete all 7 weekly Legends of Haranir quests. The first 5 relics can be finished in any order, but the last 2 only unlock after completing the first five on a single character. That's a minimum of 7 weeks in total.

7. Off the Paws

During the Clawed Patrol world task, build up 15+ stacks of the Predator's Thrill buff by running across rodents.

8. From the Cradle to the Grave

On a flying mount, ascend straight up into the Cradle above the Lair. Once you fly high enough, the screen flashes white — you are teleported back and the achievement is credited.

Zone 4: Voidstorm — Yelling into the Voidstorm

Yelling into the Voidstorm includes 5 sub-tasks:

1. Apex Predator

Find and kill all the rare creatures of the Voidstorm. Some of them are quite powerful — use the group finder if you can't handle them solo.

2. Treasures of the Voidstorm

Find and collect all 13 hidden treasures in the zone. Some of them require multi-step actions to unlock.

3. Voidstorm

Fully reveal the map of the Voidstorm.

4. The Thrill of the Chase

Survive 60 seconds of being chased by the Ravenous Presence — a giant creature that hunts those who fly too high or beyond the zone boundaries. Use your skyriding abilities to maintain speed and dodge.

5. The Only Problem

Complete all 3 waves of the Storming Stormarion world event at Stormarion Citadel in the western part of the zone. Defend the Singularity Anchor against waves of enemies.

Side Quests:

Complete all the side quest chains in the Voidstorm.

Time Restrictions

Several achievements are tied to the weekly reset, which sets the minimum time required to obtain the mount:

Achievement Zone Minimum Time
The Party Must Go On! Eversong Woods 4 weeks
Legends Never Die Harandar 7 weeks
Haranir Chronicler Harandar 7 weeks

Recommendation: start the weekly tasks as soon as you reach the corresponding zones. While you wait for the reset, work on treasures, rare creatures, and exploration.

Tips for Efficient Completion

Addons that will save you time:

  • HandyNotes + the Midnight modules — displays treasures, rare creatures, and moths on your map
  • TomTom — coordinate navigation
  • Meta Achievement Tracker — tracks your progress on the Light Up the Night meta-achievement and shows what is still left to do

Order of operations:

  1. Complete the Midnight story campaign to unlock all the zones
  2. Start the weekly tasks: Eversong Woods and Legends of Haranir (Harandar)
  3. In parallel, explore the zones, collect treasures, kill rare creatures
  4. Build up Renown with the Hara'ti to level 9 to unlock all 120 moths
  5. Don't forget the world events — Bounty and Storming Stormarion are available on a schedule

Common mistakes:

  • Forgetting to visit Saltheril's celebration each week — every missed week pushes back getting the mount
  • Trying to collect all the moths before Renown level 9 — some of them simply won't appear
  • Legends Never Die requires all 5 of the first relics on a single character — you cannot split them between alts
  • Not using addons — without HandyNotes, finding treasures and moths takes many times longer
