The
Brinedeep Bottom-Feeder is an aquatic mount from the Legion expansion that can be purchased from Conjurer Margoss for
Drowned Mana. The mount is a deep-sea anglerfish that your character rides underwater. Obtaining it requires patience and fishing skill — the entire process revolves around fishing.
Margoss's Hut is a hidden floating island northwest of Dalaran in the Broken Isles. The island is not marked on the map. There are three ways to get there:
If you have flying unlocked in the Broken Isles (the Broken Isles Pathfinder, Part Two achievement), simply fly out of Dalaran to the northwest. The island floats a short distance away.
Fish up the
Emblem of Margoss from the Whirlpools in Dalaran's Underbelly, near the Black Market:
The emblem is a consumable item that teleports you straight to the island.
Go out onto the ledge between the Violet Citadel and the Magus Commerce Exchange:
From there, glide to the island using one of these options:
Use one of the methods from the section above. On your first visit, walk up to Conjurer Margoss — he stands by the fishing hut on the island.
Margoss will offer the quest Drowned Mana, which requires you to fish up and turn in 1 unit of
Drowned Mana. This quest grants you 250 reputation points — a one-time bonus.
Cast your line into the little pool right in front of Margoss's hut.
Drowned Mana can only be caught here and only on this island. Each cast can yield between 0 and 2 units of mana.
Give Drowned Mana to Conjurer Margoss:
The Conjurer Margoss faction has six reputation levels, each requiring 8,400 points:
| Level | Points to Next | Mana (cumulative from start) |
|---|---|---|
| Stranger | 8,400 | 163 |
| Acquaintance | 8,400 | 331 |
| Buddy | 8,400 | 499 |
| Friend | 8,400 | 667 |
| Good Friend | 8,400 | 835 |
| Best Friend | — | 835 |
The total amount of mana to reach Best Friend is roughly 835 units (accounting for the introductory quest). With a 10% reputation bonus, you'll need about 759 units.
Once you reach Best Friend reputation, talk to Conjurer Margoss and buy the
Brinedeep Bottom-Feeder for 100 units of
Drowned Mana.
In total, the whole journey will require roughly 935 units of Drowned Mana (835 for reputation + 100 for the purchase).
Roughly 1 in 100 casts, instead of Drowned Mana you'll catch a
Mark of Aquaos. Throw it into the lake and the elemental Aquaos the Unleashed will appear. Defeat it, and the lake will fill with energy for 2–3 minutes: during this time every cast is guaranteed to yield 1–2 units of Drowned Mana.
Before activating the Mark of Aquaos, put on your combat gear instead of your fishing pole so you can kill the elemental quickly and not waste the buff time.
The most efficient method is fishing in a group of 10–40 people. When several players fish at once, Marks of Aquaos appear more often and the boss is kept up almost constantly. In an optimal group of 20+ people, the entire farm takes 2–3 hours.
Look for groups through the Group Finder (Premade Groups / Custom search) using the queries: "Margoss", "Drowned Mana", "fishing".
When farming solo, expect 8–12 hours of total time. Without an active boss, Drowned Mana is caught less often — about 1 unit per 3–5 casts.
Use any available bonuses to speed up the grind:
| Source | Bonus | When Available |
|---|---|---|
| +10% | First week of every month | |
| +10% | First week of every month | |
| +10% | Pilgrim's Bounty week | |
| Human racial bonus ( |
+10% | Always |
The bonuses don't stack with each other (except the racial one), so pick whichever is most convenient.
Absolutely any class works for farming — you barely need to fight, and the elemental Aquaos goes down in a few seconds at current content level. If you're creating an alt specifically for this — a Human will provide a +10% reputation bonus.
While you grind reputation, take a look at his other goods:
| Item | Type | Reputation | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lure | Any | 1 mana | |
| Bobber | Friend | 25 mana | |
| Bobber | Friend | 25 mana | |
| Pet | Good Friend | 50 mana | |
| Mount | Best Friend | 100 mana | |
| Pet | Best Friend | 50 mana |
Buying all of the items requires roughly 1,235 units of Drowned Mana (reputation included).
Buy Arcane Lure from Margoss for 1 unit of mana. It increases your Fishing skill by 100 for 10 minutes and boosts the chance to catch rare fish and Marks of Aquaos.
Don't throw away rare fish. During the active Aquaos buff, rare Legion fish are also caught in the lake — they'll come in handy for leveling Fishing and the artifact fishing pole.
Farm during the Darkmoon Faire. Ride the carousel to get the +10% reputation buff before fishing — the buff lasts 1 hour.
Use Human alts. If you have a Human-race character, the Diplomacy racial will save about 76 units of mana over the whole journey.
Check the Auction House. Drowned Mana can't be sold at the Auction House, but the
Mark of Aquaos can sometimes be found there — it speeds up the farm.
The mount is account-bound. After buying it on one character, it will be available to all your characters.
