Fang of the Pit — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Fang of the Pit is an epic-quality one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft alongside the Warlords of Draenor expansion in patch 6.2 "Fury of Hellfire." It is a short blade with a distinctly demonic aesthetic: a heavy greenish-black hilt with a spiked guard and a broad blade that looks as though it were hewn from blackened Fel iron and scorched by hellfire. The look is built around a green-and-black palette with dark crimson accents and fits in well with looks tied to the Burning Legion and the Iron Horde.
The dagger belongs to the weapon set of the raid dungeon Hellfire Citadel and is designed in the same overall artistic line as that raid — the same as the tier 18 sets of its era. Statistically it is an agility weapon, so in the Adventure Guide it is flagged as rogue loot — it drops for characters with the Assassination and Subtlety specializations. For transmogrification, however, only the blade's appearance matters: once you unlock the look, it can be worn by any rogue on the account regardless of which character received the item.
As a combat weapon the item has long been outdated — it is late Warlords of Draenor gear, and in Midnight it is worn purely for its looks. As a transmog appearance, though, it remains one of the most recognizable "demonic" rogue daggers: dark, heavy, with a clear Fel motif.
Source
Fang of the Pit drops in the raid Hellfire Citadel — the final raid of the Warlords of Draenor expansion, located in Tanaan Jungle on Draenor.
- The drop source is the boss Mannoroth, one of the key raid bosses in the "Destructor's Rise" wing.
- The dagger is available on all difficulties: Normal, Heroic, and Mythic. In Warlords of Draenor it dropped at item level 700 on Normal, 715 on Heroic, and 730 on Mythic.
- It is class loot: the item appears only for characters with the Assassination and Subtlety rogue specializations. On other classes it does not drop from this boss.
- The drop chance on a rogue is roughly 13–15% per kill, provided the group includes a suitable specialization. Without a rogue in the group, the dagger has no chance of dropping.
- The boss is activated once a week per character within the standard raid lockout, so solo farming proceeds at one kill per week on each eligible alt.
- In Midnight the raid is easily cleared solo at level 90 on almost any class, but for a shot at the dagger itself you have to run it specifically as a rogue.
To reach Mannoroth, head to Tanaan Jungle on Draenor and use Group Finder or the in-game raid menu to enter Hellfire Citadel. Before Mannoroth you need to clear the bosses of the "Destructor's Rise" wing in sequence: on Mythic difficulty removing them is mandatory, while on other difficulties the standard raid order usually works.
For steady weekly farming it makes sense to keep several rogues on the account: each of them gets its own chance at the drop on every difficulty.
Alternatives
Fang of the Pit has no confirmed color recolor with a separate item ID: in Warlords of Draenor only armor sets received recolors by difficulty, while weapons looked the same across all raid difficulties. Looks similar in silhouette and theme are worth seeking out among other "demonic" weapons.
- Other one-handed daggers from Hellfire Citadel — designed in the same overall line of Fel and hellfire as Fang of the Pit.
- Demonic daggers of the Legion expansion — kept in a close Burning Legion aesthetic with green glow and spiked details.
- Daggers with a green-and-black palette from the Mythic+ dungeons of various seasons — for looks that need the same color scheme but without a raid tie-in.
If you want this exact silhouette, the thing to farm is Fang of the Pit itself: the item has no alternative source for the very same model.
Who It Suits Visually
- Suited to demonologist-rogue looks: the dark hilt and Fel blade fit the "Legion minion" concept well.
- Harmonizes with green-and-black leather armor — for example, with the tier 18 rogue set from Hellfire Citadel.
- Fitting for looks tied to the Iron Horde and Gul'dan's Fel — the appearance directly references Mannoroth and the climax of the Warlords of Draenor story.
- Contrasts with light armor and red-and-gold sets — a debatable but striking combination for demon hunter looks.
- Looks great paired with an identical dagger or another "green-and-black" blade in both hands — two matching "hellish" daggers form a cohesive demonic silhouette.
Tips
The main path to the look is weekly runs into Hellfire Citadel specifically on a rogue: the dagger is class-based and does not drop on other specializations.
It is convenient to enter on Mythic difficulty — there the item originally had the highest item level and the same weapon model for transmogrification.
Keep several rogues on the account: each gets its own weekly chance at the drop, and this speeds up farming the look many times over.
Before Mannoroth you need to clear the neighboring bosses of the "Destructor's Rise" wing: on Mythic difficulty killing them is mandatory, while on other difficulties it is easier to go in via the standard raid order.
The raid's solo clearability in Midnight is high: at level 90 Mannoroth falls in one or two hits on almost any class, so more time goes to the trek to the boss than to the fight itself.
Hellfire Citadel is most comfortably run on classes with area damage and steady self-healing — for example, demon hunters, druids, monks, or paladins — but for Fang of the Pit itself you need a rogue.
The look is unlocked in the transmogrification collection when the item is obtained by any rogue on the account — after that it can be worn on any other rogue.
Remember the weekly lockout per character: on the same rogue, after killing Mannoroth a new shot at the drop appears only after the weekly server reset.
