Get Flamegrinder

Flamegrinder is an epic-quality two-handed bludgeoning mace added to World of Warcraft with the Warlords of Draenor expansion. It is a prestigious reward for Draenor's challenges, and collectors value it precisely for that status rather than for its stats.

Visually it is a massive war maul with a red-hot fiery head and streams of flame running along the body — a weapon built around the distinctive "fiery" silhouette of the challenger's arsenal. In practice the item is a cosmetic effect: its item level is 1, and its only function is to add the appearance to your warband's transmogrification collection. After it is used, the appearance stays available forever, even if the item itself is destroyed.

Flamegrinder is tied to one of the toughest challenges of the Warlords of Draenor expansion.

• It requires the Challenge Warlord: Gold achievement — you must clear every Draenor dungeon in Challenge Mode with a gold rating.
• Once the achievement is earned, the mace can be bought for 1,000 gold from the challenge masters in Draenor's capital garrisons.
• The Alliance vendor is Challenger Savina.
• The Horde vendor is Challenger Sunforge.
• The purchase is available only to the character who personally completed the gold achievement.

Draenor's Challenge Mode and its associated rewards were moved to the legacy category back in Legion (patch 7.0.3). Earning the achievement and buying this mace is no longer possible today — the appearance remains only with those who managed to earn it while it was current. This makes Flamegrinder a rare, prestigious transmog.

• For "fiery" looks — the mace harmonizes with red-and-orange armor and flame effects.
• It looks great paired with dark plate armor: the contrast of black metal and the red-hot head reinforces the silhouette.
• It fits elemental and forge themes — looks tied to fire, lava, and metal.
• It contrasts strikingly with cool blue sets — a debatable but vivid "ice and fire" approach.
