Get Flameheart Spell Scalpel
Overview

Flameheart Spell Scalpel is a one-handed dagger of rare quality from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Despite the word "scalpel" in its name, by weapon type it is precisely a dagger: a thin, light caster blade held in one hand.
Visually it is a narrow straight blade on an elegant hilt — a model of the kind designed for a spellcaster character rather than a melee fighter. The dagger pairs comfortably with the cloth and leather sets of mages, priests, warlocks, and shamans, for whom a one-handed blade in hand looks natural.
The item binds when picked up, so it cannot be passed to another character — the dagger has to be claimed by the hero who needs it for the look. The base stats are modest (item level 15, level 30 requirement), but for transmogrification only the model itself matters, and it can be applied to a weapon of any level.
Source
The dagger does not drop from bosses and is not crafted by a profession — it is a reward for reputation with the Kirin Tor faction. You can buy it from the faction's quartermaster.
- Vendor — Archmage Alvareaux, quartermaster of the Kirin Tor.
- Location — the city of Dalaran, the Violet Citadel, the upper landing of the staircase. Approximate coordinates —
/way Dalaran 25.4 47.4. - Required reputation — revered with the Kirin Tor.
- Price — about 75 gold, no additional currency needed.
- There are no purchase restrictions: you can return to the vendor and buy the dagger at any moment once you reach the required reputation level.
Kirin Tor reputation is gained fastest through the
Tabard of the Kirin Tor: it is bought from the same quartermaster at friendly standing, worn, and used to run heroic Northrend dungeons. Each kill of a creature in a dungeon while wearing the tabard grants reputation points, so a few runs through easy heroics quickly raise standing to revered. Additional points come from the starting Kirin Tor quests in Dalaran and from daily quests for characters with suitable professions.
Mages begin their acquaintance with the Kirin Tor already at friendly standing and can take the tabard without preliminary quests — for them the path to revered is shorter.
Who it suits visually
- Harmonizes with the blue-violet cloth sets of mages and priests — the blade does not steal attention and works as a tidy accent.
- Suits warlocks and shamans who need a restrained one-handed blade without bulky effects or large details.
- Looks striking paired with a massive shield or tome: the thin blade emphasizes the main item regardless of its color scheme.
- Fitting for looks themed around Dalaran and the Kirin Tor — the dagger references the city's mages in both origin and silhouette.
- A good choice for low-level caster characters: the slim model does not look out of place on a hero in simple starter gear.
Tips
First raise reputation to friendly standing, then immediately buy the
Tabard of the Kirin Tor — without it, kills in dungeons grant no Kirin Tor reputation.
For farming, choose short and simple heroic Northrend dungeons: the faster the run, the more reputation points per hour.
Mages save time — they already have friendly standing at the start, and the tabard can be taken right away.
The dagger binds when picked up, so buy it with the character who needs the look: forwarding the blade to another hero will not work.
In a single trip to Archmage Alvareaux it is convenient to look over the entire Kirin Tor assortment at once and pick up other needed looks, so you do not have to return again.
The dagger's low stats do not matter: for transmogrification only the unlocked model is important, and it can be applied to a weapon of any level.
Access opens only after learning the Wrath of the Lich King expansion and reaching Dalaran — on a character without access to Northrend the vendor will be unreachable.
