MoP Classic Beast Mastery Hunter — Guide (Phase 5)
About the Class
Beast Mastery Hunter is a ranged physical DPS whose damage comes mostly through the pet. The mastery
Mastery: Master of Beasts directly boosts the pet, so roughly half of your damage comes from the beast.
The resource is focus: it is generated by
Cobra Shot and
Steady Shot, and spent on
Kill Command,
Arcane Shot and
Multi-Shot. In a raid it is a mobile DPS with burst damage, and it brings
Trueshot Aura and
Misdirection. It doesn't need top-tier gear, but on steady damage it falls behind Survival.
Strengths
- Huge burst damage:
Stampede together with
Bestial Wrath and
Rapid Fire. - Passive two-target damage through
Beast Cleave from Multi-Shot. - Brings
Trueshot Aura to the raid. - Excellent utility:
Misdirection,
Feign Death,
Deterrence,
Binding Shot. - Almost the entire rotation is instant — you can move as much as you want.
- Easy to gear at the start and the best of the hunters in solo play.
Weaknesses
- The pet needs constant management: if it dies or falls behind, your damage collapses.
- Steady single-target damage is lower than Survival's.
- Weak area damage outside the Beast Cleave window.
- The least valuable hunter specialization for progression.
- Few defensive abilities and almost no self-healing.
