Spire of Expurgation — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Spire of Expurgation is a two-handed staff added in the Shadowlands expansion alongside the Tazavesh, the Veiled Market mega-dungeon in patch 9.1.0. It is a broker-styled weapon: a dark lacquered shaft with golden inlays and a crystalline head, kept in the purple-and-gold palette of the mysterious cross-world bazaar. The model belongs to the broker weapon family, so it fits nicely into looks built around the Tazavesh and broker themes.
The staff is not tied to a specific specialization by its stats — for transmog only the model matters, which can be worn by every class that uses staves: druids, mages, warlocks, priests, shamans and monks. The item belongs to legacy content, so in the current Midnight expansion at the maximum level of 90 it is interesting purely as an appearance piece rather than as a combat weapon.
Source
Spire of Expurgation drops from Hylbrande — the penultimate boss of the Tazavesh, the Veiled Market dungeon.
- He is a guardian golem, the "Sword of the Keepers", protecting an ancient titanic artifact in the dungeon's second wing.
- Tazavesh consists of eight bosses and is split into two wings: "Streets of Wonder" (the first five bosses) and "So'leah's Gambit" (the last three). Hylbrande is in the second wing.
- Difficulty: the dungeon is run in Mythic and Heroic modes (Heroic mode was added in the expansion's third season of The War Within). On the Normal difficulty of separate wings the item is also available from this boss.
- The drop chance is low — the staff shares the loot table with Hylbrande's other items, so farming may take several runs.
- There is no attempt limit: you can clear the dungeon as many times as you need until the model drops.
How to reach the dungeon:
- Tazavesh is located in the Brokers' Den; you can get there by ferry from Oribos.
- In The War Within a portal appeared in Dornogal leading straight to the entrance, as well as access through the gameplay hub on K'aresh.
- Inside, the run is linear: you go through "Streets of Wonder" and then enter "So'leah's Gambit", where Hylbrande awaits.
Who it suits visually
- Suits looks in the broker aesthetic — the purple-and-gold range of Tazavesh and the Brokers' Den.
- Harmonizes with cloth and leather sets in dark shades with golden trim.
- Looks great on mages and warlocks who emphasize the "techno-magical" silhouette of the head.
- Contrasts with the bright plate armor of a paladin bent — a debatable but deliberately bold combination.
- Fitting in sets that play on the theme of titanic mechanisms and guardian golems.
Tips
The dungeon belongs to legacy content, so in Midnight at level 90 it can be soloed on almost any class.
It is most convenient to farm on classes with high mobility and good self-healing — that way the runs to Hylbrande go faster.
Hylbrande is the penultimate boss, so before him you will have to clear part of the dungeon; budget 15–20 minutes for a full run.
During the "Purge Cycle" mechanic Hylbrande periodically restores energy and starts a vault defense; solo this is solved by simply waiting and resetting the phase.
If your goal is only transmog, farm the item on any character: the appearance unlocks in the account-wide appearance collection.
Check all loot from Hylbrande — he drops more than just this staff, and in one run you can gather several appearances at once.
Stock up on patience: the model does not drop from every kill, so repeat the runs at a comfortable pace.
