Get B. F. F. Necklace

The B. F. F. Necklace is a joke toy from Mists of Pandaria, added in patch 5.5.0. When activated, you “gift” the necklace to another player and apply the “Best Friends Forever” buff to them: a little heart briefly pops up over the target, your character automatically plays the /kiss emote, and the recipient plays /cheer. The effect lasts a full day of played time on the target (not real time) — resting in your capital city does not eat into the buff, the clock only ticks while your character is in the game.

The toy drops with a 100% chance from the rare elite mob Huggalon the Heart Watcher, who sits in the Niuzao Catacombs beneath the Temple of Niuzao in Townlong Steppes. He is a huge titanic guardian in the spirit of Archavon from Wrath of the Lich King, only with a big pink bow on his head and the line “HUGGALON LOVE YOU!” when he dies. His respawn timer is 30 minutes to an hour, so the toy farms reliably in one or two visits, and at max Midnight level (90) the fight itself wraps up in about a dozen hits.

Huggalon is part of a “Captain Planet” reference: together with Archavon the Stone Watcher, Emalon the Storm Watcher, Koralon the Flame Watcher, and Toravon the Ice Watcher, he forms the fifth element of the famous chant — Heart. The pink bow and the heart buff put an exclamation mark on this Blizzard joke.

• Unique social effect. The B. F. F. Necklace has almost no equivalents in the collection: it is one of the few toys that works on another player and leaves a noticeable long-lasting buff with a heart floating above their head. It is perfect for guild meetups, Goldshire weddings, and group screenshots.
• A day of played time. The buff lasts roughly 24 hours of pure online time. If your friend plays two hours a day, your “mark of friendship” will stay on them for almost two weeks of real time.
• Guaranteed drop. Unlike most rare Pandaria toys, there is no RNG here: kill Huggalon — take the necklace. That makes it one of the easiest in the collection, especially for newcomers who need quick “+1 to the Toy Box” entries for meta achievements.
• Counts toward collection achievements. +1 in the Toy Box brings you closer to Such a Pile of Toys and Toy Box Tycoon, as well as the bigger collector meta-achievements.
• Account-wide status. After the first activation the necklace goes into your Toy Box and is available on any character on your account — on any faction, class, and server. There is no need to farm Huggalon again.
• A lore Easter egg. Huggalon is a “Captain Planet” reference, slain by a huge titan in a pink bow. The trip to the cave in the Niuzao Catacombs is a pleasure of its own for a Pandaria secrets collector.

The toy is obtained only by killing Huggalon — it cannot be bought at the auction house, from vendors, or for the Trader's Tender currency. The whole run at max Midnight level (90) takes 10–15 minutes including the flight.

Step 1. Fly to Townlong Steppes

At max Midnight level (90), the easiest way into Pandaria is this:

1. Use the portal to the Shrine of Two Moons or the Shrine of Seven Stars — both hubs are in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and open to any character.
2. From the Shrine, fly west into Townlong Steppes. There are no story prerequisites to enter the zone — it is fully open at max level.
3. Head to the southeastern part of the zone — to the islands with the Temple of Niuzao. If you have the flight point at Longying Outpost unlocked, that is the closest starting point.

Step 2. Find the Entrance to the Niuzao Catacombs

The Catacombs are an open cave, not a Dungeon Finder instance. You can enter solo, without a group and without an active quest.

1. Fly to the western part of the Temple of Niuzao islands.
2. The cave entrance is on the western shore of the lower island, next to the water. The coordinates are roughly 32.5, 60.1 in Townlong Steppes.

3. This is not the entrance to the dungeon of the same name, Siege of Niuzao Temple — that is elsewhere among the islands and we do not need it. We need the cave in the cliffs to the west.

Step 3. Make Your Way to Huggalon

Inside the cave there is one simple instruction: “stick to the right wall.”

1. Enter the cave and immediately turn right at the first fork.
2. Follow the right wall — past piles of bones and packs of local mobs. At max Midnight level (90) they are no threat, but aggroing a dozen at once is still unpleasant, so move through quickly on your mount.
3. Shortly before an archway lit by glowing bugs, watch for a narrow passage up and to the right. Huggalon sits in this branch. The mini-boss is not marked as rare on the map — there will be no skull icons, so navigate by the passage.

Step 4. Kill Huggalon and Take the Necklace

1. Huggalon the Heart Watcher is a large stone golem guardian in a pink bow. At Midnight level (90) he goes down in 5–10 seconds, there are no dangerous mechanics, and you do not need a healer.
2. His corpse drops the B. F. F. Necklace with a 100% chance. Pick it up and right-click it in your inventory to add it to the Toy Box — after activation the item itself disappears from your bag.
3. Huggalon's respawn timer is 30 minutes to 1 hour. If you are farming necklaces for several alts by trading within a group, you can wait on the spot or fly off to handle small things at nearby points of interest (nearby, for example, lies a Fragment of Fear — a junk treasure artifact worth 90 gold).

Step 5. Collect Nearby Collectibles

The Niuzao Catacombs are a great place to grab a couple of Pandaria collectibles and treasures along the way. On the way back, check the surrounding caves and the island part of the Temple: Townlong Steppes has plenty of Mists-era rare mobs, and some of them are still useful for transmog and the “Townlong Steppes” meta-achievement.

• Effect. Activating the spell B. F. F. Necklace on a chosen friendly player applies the “Best Friends Forever!” buff to them. A heart briefly pops up over the character, your hero automatically does /kiss, and the target does /cheer.
• Buff duration. A day of played time, that is, roughly 24 hours of total /played, not a real-time timer. Going offline or sitting in the capital will not burn the buff.
• Cooldown. About 24 hours of real time. The toy is not “consumed” — after activation it simply goes on cooldown.
• Who it targets. Only friendly players — the necklace does not work on yourself, nor on pets and NPCs.
• Where it works. In the open world, in capital cities, in most Pandaria zones. Inside raid instances, Mythic dungeons, and arenas, its use may be canceled by the PvP-instance rules; on battlegrounds it usually only works before the match starts.
• Can it be removed. The buff cannot be removed by right-clicking and does not disappear on death. If your friend wants to be rid of it, they will have to wait out the day of played time or step into an instance where PvP effects are reset.
• Does it stack. The same “Best Friends Forever!” buff — one at a time. Reusing it on the same target refreshes the timer but does not add a second buff on top.
