Fire Mage PvE Guide — Midnight
About the Class
Fire Mage is a ranged fighter who can wield either two one-handed weapons (wands, daggers, off-hand items) or a two-handed weapon (staves). The class boasts enormous burst damage both in single target and AoE, as well as a very fast rotation during its burst cooldown, which demands quick reactions to the ability procs that appear.
Strengths
- Excellent damage in both single target and AoE.
- Simple rotation that lets you grasp the class quickly and put out good results.
- A raid buff that grants 30% haste for 30 seconds (Bloodlust, Heroism), as well as an Intellect buff for every raid/party member.
Weaknesses
- Heavy reliance on burst cooldowns. Without them the class deals mediocre damage.
- You must watch for ability procs and react to them quickly, since every delay significantly reduces your damage output.
- For AoE damage the mobs must be standing close together, as the radius of AoE abilities is small

Rotation (Abilities Priority)
Single Target
Firestarter — When active, delay
Combustion until the target's health drops below 90%
Combustion — Use Combustion near the end of a cast with a cast time
Frostfire Bolt
Meteor — Use it as soon as it becomes available. If you had to delay it by more than 10 seconds, skip the use and save Meteor for Combustion
Hot Streak — When active, use
Pyroblast. Use it after casting a non-instant
Frostfire Bolt so that both reach the target at the same time
Combustion — If you have only one stack of Pyroclasm and Combustion will be ready before Pyroclasm expires, you should delay the cast with a cast time until right before Combustion, then cast Pyroblast so that Combustion fires at the moment the Pyroblast cast finishes

Pyroblast and
Fire Blast.
As you level up you will gain new abilities, getting closer to the core rotation. We recommend following this ability priority as they become available:
Mythic+ Tips
The
Alter Time ability lets you quickly recover after taking large but non-lethal damage. If you realize you are about to take damage, press this ability once before taking the damage and once after.
You can use
Shimmer while casting spells if you urgently need to leave the area you are standing in.
Always keep
Blazing Barrier active. This ability significantly increases your survivability.
