Unholy Death Knight PvE Guide — Midnight
About the Class
Unholy Death Knight (UDK) is a melee fighter who wields a two-handed weapon (sword, axe) and uses a variety of diseases and curses to deal damage. The spec has excellent burst damage in both AoE and single-target combat.
Strengths
- Very strong burst damage.
- A simple rotation that makes it easy to grasp the spec's core identity and quickly put up solid numbers.
- Strong defensive tools for both yourself and your group/raid.
Weaknesses
- A small number of abilities, which significantly limits the rotation. The spec may feel boring to some players.
- Single-target damage is inconsistent and depends on talent choices, so it can fall short compared to other specs.
- Few abilities that affect crowd control of enemy groups.

Leveling
From the very first level you will already have abilities to deal damage. Your main abilities at early levels will be
Outbreak,
Scourge Strike and
Death Strike. As you level up you will gain new abilities, moving closer to your main rotation. We recommend following the ability priority from the rotation section.
Useful Tips for Mythic+ Keys
1
If your group has few classes able to interrupt spells, or you plan a fight with many spell-casting mobs, be sure to pick up the
Cold Thirst talent. Interrupting abilities gives you 10 Runic Power and reduces the cooldown of the interrupt by 3 seconds, letting you interrupt dangerous enemy spells more often.
2
Take the
Asphyxiate talent if your group lacks or has insufficient crowd control. This ability lets you stun a target for 5 seconds, preventing it from casting dangerous spells.
3
Try to use
Death Grip as often as possible on mobs that cast constantly and stay in place. This ability interrupts the cast and pulls the pesky mob to you.
