Overview

Eternium Runed Blade

Game iconEternium Runed Blade is an epic-quality one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with The Burning Crusade expansion (patch 2.1.0). The blade is meant for spellcasters: intellect, stamina, and critical strike rating make it a weapon for mages, warlocks, priests, shamans, druids, and, in the modern game, evokers as well.

Visually it is a short blade with a dark hilt and a narrow edge running with a chain of runic notches — hence the name. The dagger's silhouette is calm, without ornate decoration, which makes it a convenient base for understated spellcaster looks. In the appearance collection the item registers as a one-handed main-hand weapon.

Although the dagger's stats have long been outdated, its model remains sought after by transmog fans who favor the style of the classic expansions: the runed blade pairs well with cloth sets from The Burning Crusade era and with dark spellcaster robes.

Source

The Eternium Runed Blade does not drop from bosses — it is a crafted item. It is created by a character with the Game iconBlacksmithing profession at skill 365, with the Weaponsmithing of Outland specialization (skill level 65 in that branch is required).

To craft the blade, a smith needs the recipe — Game iconPlans: Eternium Runed Blade. This is a rare world drop: the plans fall from regular mobs in Outland zones of roughly levels 60–72. It has no guaranteed source, so the easiest route is to buy the plans or the finished dagger from other players at the auction house.

Forging the blade itself requires these reagents:

The finished dagger becomes soulbound when equipped, so to unlock the appearance it must be crafted or obtained on the very character who will wear it. The plans and reagents themselves transfer freely — commissioning the forging from a friendly smith is also fine.

Who it suits visually

  • Suits cloth sets from The Burning Crusade era — the runic pattern echoes the ornaments of Outland mage and warlock sets.
  • Harmonizes with dark robes in purple and charcoal tones thanks to the restrained dark hilt.
  • Pairs with looks built around arcane magic and runic themes — the notches on the blade set the tone for the whole outfit.
  • Contrasts with bright "holy" priest sets — a debatable but expressive choice for anyone who wants a dark accent in hand.

Tips

1

The plans drop rarely and have no fixed source — before farming, check the price of the finished dagger and the plans at the auction house; it is often faster and cheaper.

2

If you have no smith of your own, you can gather the reagents yourself and commission the forging — the blade becomes soulbound only after being equipped, not when created.

3

Primal Might and Primal Nether are the most expensive reagents in the recipe; allocate most of your budget specifically to them.

4

Khorium and eternium bars are smelted from Outland ore, so a character with Mining will noticeably cut crafting costs.

5

The plans drop from mobs of levels 60–72 — for targeted farming, choose zones with a high density of regular enemies in that range.

6

To unlock the appearance it is enough to equip the finished dagger once — after that the item's stats no longer matter, and it can be disenchanted or sold.

7

In the modern game the dagger fits transmog for all classes able to wield daggers and use spellcaster main-hand weapons.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
