Artistically, the axe references the Consortium faction and the ethereal race — beings of pure energy who inhabited Outland during the The Burning Crusade expansion. The axe drops from a world boss named Doomwalker — a version of the legendary mechanical sentinel that appears for the duration of the World of Warcraft anniversary celebration.
