Overview

Evocator's Blade

Game iconEvocator's Blade is a one-handed dagger of rare quality with an item level of 16. It is a short blade with a wide curved edge and a plain hilt, finished in cold grey-steel tones. Its silhouette is restrained and slightly asymmetrical, with no glowing effects or trim — a look that fits builds calling for an understated, almost everyday knife rather than a ceremonial weapon.

The item dates back to the very earliest versions of World of Warcraft, but in retail it has long since been reduced to purely cosmetic loot. There is no point in wearing it as an actual weapon — the dagger's only value lies in its appearance for transmogrification. The dagger is available to characters of all specializations that use daggers: rogues, mages, priests, warlocks, druids, shamans and keepers of ancient lore.

The appearance has no class or faction binding. Once you obtain the dagger and it enters your appearance collection, the look is unlocked account-wide — any of your characters of a suitable specialization can apply it.

Source

Evocator's Blade is random loot from the regular mobs of the Blackfathom Deeps dungeon in the Ashenvale zone. This is a flooded night elf temple on the coast, in the north-western corner of the zone. There is no dedicated boss that guarantees the dagger — it drops in small amounts from the various undead and Twilight's Hammer cultists that populate the dungeon.

The main sources by loot statistics:

  • Twilight Disciple — the most consistent source, with plenty of these mobs in the dungeon.
  • Blindlight Murloc — rank-and-file murlocs in the flooded halls.
  • Ghamoo-Ra — one of the dungeon's bosses, who occasionally hands over the dagger as well.

Some of the mobs that drop this blade already roam on the approach to the dungeon — for example, the Blackfathom Tide Priestess appears among the ruins in Ashenvale even before the instance entrance.

The drop chance is very low: according to aggregated statistics it stays within roughly 0.01% to 0.25% per mob depending on the creature type. This means the dagger rarely drops during a single clear of the dungeon, and you should be prepared for several runs.

The dungeon has no lockout timer on repeat runs, but a general instance entry limit applies — no more than 10 per hour per account. After a full clear it makes sense to step outside, reset the dungeon and enter again.

Getting to the entrance is easy. Head to the north-western corner of Ashenvale, toward the Zoram Strand coast, to the sunken elven ruins near coordinates /way 14 15. At the temple entrance, jump into the water and swim west through the underwater tunnel — it leads straight to the dungeon portal.

Who it suits visually

  • Suits low-level roleplay builds for a rogue or hunter — a plain knife with no magical effects looks like a working tool rather than an artifact.
  • Pairs well with leather and cloth sets in grey, brown and steel tones — for example, with the starting gear of night elves and humans.
  • Harmonizes with "fisherman", "hunter" or "vagabond" looks thanks to its utilitarian silhouette — especially together with clothing free of plate trim.
  • Stands out by contrast in the hands of a mage or priest in a rich ceremonial robe — a debatable but memorable choice if you want a down-to-earth detail in an ornate look.

Tips

1

The entry limit is 10 instances per hour per account. Plan your route so that each run is a full clear, not just a couple of rooms.

2

Reset the dungeon manually: step outside, right-click your portrait and choose reset — that way the mobs respawn without waiting for a timer.

3

It is most efficient to farm with a max-level character: the mobs of Blackfathom Deeps die instantly, and all your time goes only into moving between them.

4

Classes with good mobility and area clearing work most conveniently — for example, a demon hunter or rogue moves quickly through the flooded halls.

5

If you need the appearance as soon as possible rather than for a specific collection entry, farm the mini-boss Thruk for inv_weapon_shortblade_15Thruk's Fillet Knife — the same model drops many times more often.

6

During a single run, gather grey and green gear along the way to sell and disenchant — low-level dungeons pay off the time spent farming the appearance nicely.

7

Keep in mind that some of the source mobs already stand outside, in the Ashenvale ruins — clear them on the way to the entrance, do not skip them.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
