Get Brown Horse mount

Brown Horse is the classic ground mount of the humans, one of the four basic steeds of the Alliance capital.

The mount is bound to your account collection: get it just once and it becomes available to every Alliance character who meets the usage requirements. For transmog enthusiasts and retro-farmers, this is one of the cheapest purchases in the entire game.

• One-gold price — the most budget-friendly named mount on the Alliance. Even a brand-new character can afford the purchase right after learning the riding skill
• Classic look — a brown horse that became the calling card of the Stormwind guard all the way back in original World of Warcraft
• Achievement progress — it counts toward the mount collector achievements
• Available account-wide — an unlocked mount appears in the collection of any character that meets the racial and reputation conditions
• A handy "head start" for alts — if you have already raised your Stormwind reputation on one character, the purchase becomes available to other Alliance races as well

For a human character there are no reputation requirements — Stormwind horses are considered the racial mounts of the humans from the start. Any other Alliance race (dwarf, gnome, night elf, draenei, worgen, Alliance pandaren, void elf, and so on) must first reach Exalted with the Stormwind faction. Only then will the vendors agree to sell the steed.

The item is sold by four Alliance horse-breeder vendors. They all offer the same assortment of four basic bridles and three epic steeds. The price depends on your Stormwind reputation: at "Friendly" status and above the faction discount kicks in, turning 1 gold into 80 silver.

Katie Stokes — Stormwind, Old Town

The most convenient option for most players. Katie Stokes stands by the stable next to the SI:7 headquarters in Old Town, just a few steps from the stone bridge leading to the Trade District.

If you have a human character or have raised your Stormwind reputation, fly straight here. Old Town is accessible from anywhere in the world via the hearthstone to the capital.

Katie Hunter — Elwynn Forest, Eastvale Logging Camp

The first historical human horse vendor. She stands in the corral at Eastvale Logging Camp in the eastern part of Elwynn Forest, next to Supervisor Raelen the Hunter.

A good choice if you are leveling a new human in the starting zone and don't want to return to Stormwind.

Unger Statforth — Wetlands, Menethil Harbor

The only horse vendor in the Eastern Kingdoms outside the capital. His corral is in the southern part of Menethil Harbor, right past the city gates.

A logical choice if you are leveling an Alliance dwarf or gnome through Dun Morogh and heading into Khaz Modan.

Gregor MacVince — Dustwallow Marsh, Theramore

A vendor on the isle of Theramore off the eastern coast of Dustwallow Marsh. You need to reach him by boat from the port at Menethil Harbor or via Kalimdor flight points. This option is only relevant for players who, for whatever reason, are already in southern Kalimdor.

1. Create an Alliance character and level them to level 10
2. If the character is not a human, raise your reputation with Stormwind to Exalted in advance. Quick methods include completing the old Eastern Kingdoms story chains, Battle for Azeroth command table missions, and weekly quests
3. Head to one of the four horse-breeder vendors. The simplest route is the hearthstone to Stormwind, then walking to Old Town to Katie Stokes
4. Buy the Brown Horse Bridle for 1 gold (or 80 silver with the discount)
5. Use the item — it teaches the spell Brown Horse, after which the mount appears in your collection journal

If you play a non-human, the vendors won't even open the sale window without Exalted. Current farming methods in 2026:

• Old Eastern Kingdoms story quests — clearing Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Duskwood, and the Wetlands in Chromie Time. This gives a steady reputation gain as you complete the quest chains
• Alliance command — missions from the command table in the Legion and Battle for Azeroth patches that grant Stormwind reputation
• Tabard — the Stormwind Tabard, purchased in Stormwind, speeds up gains from kills in dungeons
• Argent Tournament — the campaign at the Tournament arena in Icecrown still gives a noticeable reputation boost with the Alliance capitals

The fastest path is parallel farming across several old zones and dungeons with the tabard active. Reaching Exalted usually takes between three and five evenings of focused play.

• Buy all four bridles first — don't limit yourself to a single model. The price difference is negligible (4 gold for all of them), and all four mounts count separately toward your collection
• Use the faction discount — at "Friendly" status and above with Stormwind, the price drops to 80 silver for a regular bridle and 80 gold for an epic one. For humans the discount works automatically
• Check the phase in Old Town — some old Stormwind quest lines temporarily move the character into an alternate phase where Katie Stokes may not be visible. If she has disappeared, close the active story quests or switch to a neighboring horse-breeder
• The mount is a workhorse, not cosmetics — its 60% speed helps you move faster through old zones where flying isn't available, for example while farming transmog in Classic zones
