Get Brown Ram mount
Overview

Brown Ram is a ground racial mount of the Alliance Dwarves, one of the most recognizable inhabitants of Dun Morogh. It is a massive mountain ram of the Barak Tor'ol breed: thick wool, sturdy hooves, and massive curled horns make it the ideal steed for journeys across the rocky slopes of Hillsbrad and the snowy paths of the Arathi Highlands. The mount appeared back in classic World of Warcraft and remains in the game in the current patch.
The item is sold for 1 gold by Veron Amberstill at Amberstill Ranch in the eastern part of Dun Morogh. Dwarves buy it without any conditions upon reaching level 10, while the rest of the Alliance races can only buy it after raising their reputation with Ironforge to Exalted. The restriction applies fully to the Horde: this mount is available only to players of the Alliance faction.
Why you want this mount
- Classic Dwarven racial mount — part of the collection of six Ironforge rams (three regular and three swift), a signature of the Dwarven race on par with mechanostriders
- Free mount for Dwarves — purchased for 1 gold without any requirements, making it the cheapest way to start building a collection on a new Dwarf
- An entry in the mount collection — counts toward the overall achievement tally for collecting
- Account-wide unlock — after the first learning, the mount appears for all your Alliance characters, regardless of race
- A reason to finish Ironforge reputation — for Elves, Humans, Gnomes, and other Alliance races, buying the ram becomes a convenient reward for grinding reputation with one of the capital's five base factions
- A single assortment at one NPC — Veron Amberstill sells all six rams at once. In one visit you can close out the whole lineup
Where to buy the Brown Ram
The vendor is Veron Amberstill, a ram breeder at Amberstill Ranch. The ranch is located in the east of Dun Morogh, along the road between Kharanos and Stonewrought Pass, near the outer gates of Ironforge.
How to get to Dun Morogh
- From Stormwind: head to the Deeprun Tram (entrance in the Mage Quarter area) and ride to Ironforge — the trip takes about two minutes
- From Ironforge: exit through the city's main gates to the south, then turn east on the road toward Kharanos
- From Silvermoon or other capitals: use the portal to Stormwind and then take the tram
- From the gates of Ironforge to the ranch — about 30 seconds of flight or a minute riding a mount
How to gain Ironforge reputation as a non-Dwarf
If you play as a Human, Gnome, Night Elf, Draenei, Worgen, Void Elf, or any other Alliance race, you need Exalted with Ironforge to buy the mount. There are several reliable ways to raise this reputation.
1. Championing at the Argent Tournament
The fastest modern method. Complete daily quests for Ironforge at the Argent Tournament in Icecrown. After earning the achievement Exalted Champion of Ironforge, you unlock access to Derrick Brindlebeard, the Ironforge quartermaster, who also gives reputation for turning in trophies.
2. Ironforge tabard in old dungeons
Put on the
Ironforge Tabard, purchased from Captain Stonehelm in the Great Forge of Ironforge, and run old low-level dungeons. All the reputation you gain from kills in these dungeons counts toward Ironforge.
3. Brewfest
During the annual Brewfest in September–October, Alliance players can perform beer deliveries to their capitals. These quests regularly grant Ironforge reputation, allowing you to quickly close the missing standing levels with the capital.
4. Low-level story quests
When leveling in Dun Morogh, the Arathi Highlands, Loch Modan, the Hinterlands, and Darkshore, many quests grant Ironforge reputation. For characters starting in these regions, the required level is usually reached naturally.
Step-by-step purchase plan
- Bring your character to level 10 — you will automatically receive the Apprentice Riding skill with a +100% speed bonus
- Make sure you have at least 1 gold in your purse
- If the character is not a Dwarf — raise your reputation with Ironforge to Exalted using one of the methods above
- Head to Ironforge via the tram from Stormwind or a magic portal
- Exit the city and move east along the road to Amberstill Ranch (coordinates /way 70.4 49.0)
- Talk to Veron Amberstill and open his shop
- Buy the
Brown Ram for 1 gold - Use the item — the mount will be learned and added to your account-wide collection
Tips for collectors
- Create a Dwarf specifically for racial mounts. A new Dwarven character gains access to all six rams at once upon reaching level 10, with no need to grind reputation. This is the fastest way to close out the whole lineup — 6 mounts for 33 gold and one trip to the ranch
- Farm Ironforge reputation at the Argent Tournament. At level 90 this is the most reliable method: daily quests in Icecrown provide steady gains
- Grab all six rams at once. Even if you only need the brown one, spend 33 gold — for a collector it is a negligible sum, and you'll get six entries in the collection from a single conversation with the vendor
- Account for the faction restriction. Horde players cannot buy this mount under any circumstances, even through reputation. If you want to collect Ironforge rams on a Horde character, you'll have to create an Alliance alt
- Check your mount collection before buying. If you ever played a Dwarf, the Ironforge ram may already be in your account-wide collection — in that case there is no need to buy it again
