Reins of the Brown Riding Camel
Overview
Reins of the Brown Riding Camel is a ground mount from the Cataclysm expansion (patch 4.0.3a). It's a single-humped camel with a dark hide and a patterned harness, purchased for gold from the Ramkahen faction quartermaster in Uldum once you reach Exalted reputation.
Camels are the signature mount model of Uldum: outside this desert zone you won't run into these mounts anywhere. The item even carries a tongue-in-cheek flavor line: "Fennimore Quigley is famous for being the first to milk a camel, as well as for the 'longest unintentional flight'... all in a single evening."
Why You Want This Mount
- Rare model. The camel animation is used by only three Uldum riding camels and nowhere else in the game.
- Achievement included. Getting any of the camels counts toward the One Hump Or Two? achievement.
- Easy to obtain. No random drop or long quest chains required — just reputation and a little gold.
- Paired mount. The same vendor also stocks the
Reins of the Tan Riding Camel, so a single push to Exalted lets you close out two mounts at once. - Collection progress. The mount counts toward your total mounts achievements and unlocks account-wide.
How to Obtain
The entire path comes down to grinding Ramkahen reputation to Exalted and buying the mount from Blacksmith Abasi in the faction capital.
- Head to Uldum. The quickest route is through the portals in the capitals (Stormwind or Orgrimmar).
- Work through the zone's story line. Completing the first half of the Uldum campaign brings your Ramkahen reputation to roughly Honored.
- Make up the remaining reputation with the zone's daily quests or by farming old Cataclysm dungeons.
- Once you hit Exalted, return to Blacksmith Abasi in the Ramkahen capital and buy the mount.
The mount's base price is 100 gold, and at Exalted the faction discount drops it to 80 gold. The cost is symbolic, so the whole challenge really comes down to the reputation itself.
Farming Optimization
- Story first. Don't rush into dungeon grinding: completing the Uldum campaign raises your reputation to Honored for free while leveling your character through the zone.
- Daily quests. After the necessary campaign steps in Uldum, the Ramkahen daily quests open up — a steady reputation source with no group requirement.
- Cataclysm dungeons. The Ramkahen tabard grants reputation for kills in the expansion's old dungeons. The method works, but the per-kill payout was nerfed long ago, so treat it as a supplement to quests rather than your main approach.
- Human racial bonus. Human characters gain extra reputation from every source thanks to the Diplomacy racial trait.
- Reputation bonuses. Pair your farming with an active Darkmoon Faire event to speed up the grind.
Tips
Two camels in one trip. Right beside the brown one, Blacksmith Abasi also sells the
Reins of the Tan Riding Camel at the same price — grab both at once so you don't have to make the trip twice.
There's a third camel as well — the
Reins of the Grey Riding Camel. It's obtained in a completely different way: via a rare item in Uldum that teleports you to a special vendor, and it's noticeably harder to get.
If it's specifically the One Hump Or Two? achievement you're after, the brown camel is the easiest way to earn it.
Check that the Ramkahen tabard is equipped before you enter a dungeon: without it, kills award no reputation.
This camel is a ground mount. Its speed depends entirely on your riding skill.
