Overview

Brown Scouting Ottuk

Game iconBrown Scouting Ottuk is an epic ground and water mount added in patch 10.0.0 of the Dragonflight expansion. It is an agile and playful ottuk with sharp eyesight, able to scout terrain as well as any seasoned pathfinder. The mount becomes available upon reaching Renown level 25 with the Iskaara Tuskarr faction: you can choose it as a quest reward or buy it from the vendor Tatto in the settlement of Iskaara on the Azure Span.

Scouting ottuks are native inhabitants of the Dragon Isles, tamed by the tuskarr to patrol the coastline. The brown coloration helps the ottuk blend in with the rocky shores, making it an excellent companion for stealthy travel. In water, the mount switches to a swimming mode that grants increased movement speed.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Guaranteed acquisition — the Brown Scouting Ottuk does not rely on a random drop. Reach Renown level 25 with the Iskaara Tuskarr, and the mount is yours.
  • Aquatic travel — the ottuk can swim at increased speed, which is useful when crossing the waters of the Dragon Isles and other zones.
  • Two ways to obtain it — you can choose the mount for free as a quest reward or buy it from a vendor if you picked a different reward.
  • Unique model — ottuks debuted in Dragonflight and have their own running, swimming, and resting animations. Your character rides on the ottuk's back, holding onto a special harness.
  • Available to all characters — once learned, the mount appears in the collection of every character on your account.
  • Fast leveling — reaching Renown level 25 with the Iskaara Tuskarr takes far less time than grinding reputation to Exalted in older expansions.

How to Obtain

To get the mount you need to reach Renown level 25 with the Iskaara Tuskarr faction. After that, you have two options.

Option 1: Quest Reward

  1. Reach Renown level 25 with the Iskaara Tuskarr
  2. You will automatically receive the quest "Our Loyal, Lanky Steeds" from the NPC Tatto in Iskaara
  3. Choose the Brown Scouting Ottuk as your reward
  4. Use the received item to learn the mount

Option 2: Buy from a Vendor

If you chose a different quest reward, the mount can be bought from the vendor Tatto or Murik in Iskaara.

How to Reach Iskaara

Iskaara is a tuskarr fishing settlement located on the western coast of the Azure Span. The vendor Tatto can be found in the stables next to the ottuks.

First Visit

  1. Arrive in the Dragon Isles by completing the Dragonflight introductory quest chain.
  2. Make your way to the Azure Span zone — it is the third zone in the main storyline.
  3. Follow the zone's main quests, which will lead you to Iskaara.
  4. Complete the tuskarr introductory quests to unlock access to the Renown system.

Quick Access

  • Use the "Iskaara" flight point on the Azure Span.
  • Settlement coordinates: /way Azure Span 13.8 49.6
  • Tatto stands by the ottuk stables in the center of the settlement.

Where to Get the Materials

If you decide to buy the mount from a vendor, you will need the following resources.

Dragon Isles Supplies (750 units)

This currency is earned from nearly any activity in the Dragon Isles:

  • World quests — the main source; each quest awards a set amount of supplies
  • Rare enemies — killing rare mobs in the open world
  • Treasures — opening chests and hidden caches
  • Weekly quests — "Aiding the Accord" style tasks award large batches of supplies
  • Dragonflight dungeons and raids — an additional source while running group content

Mastodon Tusk (2 pieces)

Tusks drop from mastodons — large mammoth-like creatures across the Dragon Isles:

  • Mountain mastodons in the Azure Span and Ohn'ahran Plains — the most accessible source
  • Magmamonts in the Waking Shores — elite variants with a higher drop chance
  • Zaqali draft mammoths in the Forbidden Reach — plenty of mobs to farm

Aquatic Maw (2 pieces)

Maws drop from large aquatic creatures across the Dragon Isles:

  • Greater mantacorns along the coast of the Azure Span — the main source
  • Large fish and sea predators in the coastal waters of the Dragon Isles
  • Aquatic elite mobs in underwater caves

Optimizing Renown Leveling

To reach Renown level 25 with the Iskaara Tuskarr, use the following sources.

Main Renown Sources

  • Weekly "Aiding the Accord" quest — a large weekly Renown bonus
  • Iskaara Tuskarr world quests — complete all available quests in the Azure Span marked with the faction's icon
  • Communal fishing — a unique Iskaara Tuskarr mechanic. Join the fishing events in Iskaara to earn Renown
  • Community Feast — a weekly event in Iskaara where you cook dishes from the fish you catch
  • Tuskarr story quests — a one-time large bonus on your first playthrough

Weekly Plan

  1. Complete the weekly "Aiding the Accord: Community Feast" quest in Iskaara
  2. Take part in communal fishing whenever it is available
  3. Complete all world quests marked with the Iskaara Tuskarr icon
  4. Finish the available faction story quests
  5. Turn in your fishing haul to Fisherman Nok for additional Renown

How Long It Takes

With regular completion of all available quests, reaching Renown level 25 takes roughly 2–3 weeks of active play. The Dragonflight Renown system works faster than older reputation systems, since each level requires a fixed amount of points.

Tips

1

Choose your reward wisely — the quest at Renown level 25 lets you pick one of two scouting ottuks for free: brown or yellow. The second one must be purchased with materials.

2

Stockpile materials in advance — start collecting Dragon Isles Supplies, Mastodon Tusks, and Aquatic Maws before reaching level 25 so you can buy both ottuks at once.

3

Fishing is the key — communal fishing and cooking events provide a significant share of Renown with the Iskaara Tuskarr.

4

Use a contract — upon reaching a certain Renown level you gain access to the Iskaara Tuskarr contract, which grants bonus Renown for any world quest in the Dragon Isles.

5

Don't forget about alts — Renown in Dragonflight is accelerated for alternate characters. If you have already built up Renown on your main, your alt gets a leveling-speed bonus.

6

The mount shines in water — the scouting ottuk is especially handy for traveling across the watery zones of the Azure Span and other coastal areas of the Dragon Isles.

7

Check the Auction House — Mastodon Tusks and Aquatic Maws can be bought at the Auction House if you do not have time to farm mobs.
