Brown Skeletal Horse

Brown Skeletal Horse is a ground mount from the early days of World of Warcraft, one of the four basic racial steeds of the Forsaken. It is a dark brown bony horse with a smoldering gaze, on which the Undercity has equipped its riders ever since the first war against the Scourge. The mount is still available today and remains one of the easiest additions to the collection for members of the Horde.

The mount is sold by Zachariah Post in Tirisfal Glades, by the ruins of Lordaeron. After the events of Battle for Azeroth, the Forsaken capital itself was destroyed, but the vendor relocated to the ruins and continues to deal with buyers. Forsaken characters get the mount almost for free, while all other Horde races will need to earn Exalted reputation with the Undercity faction.

• Mount collection and achievements — the Brown Skeletal Horse counts toward your overall mount tally and helps complete the threshold achievements at 100, 200, 300 and more steeds. One of the cheapest ways to advance the meter
• Classic appearance — the dark bay bony horse stands apart from the brighter green, ochre and purple Forsaken steeds, and unlike its black counterpart it looks less grim. Perfect for role-playing an undead character
• An easy checkmark for the Forsaken — for the undead race the mount costs literally pennies and requires no reputation grind. It is one of the first purchases when leveling a new Forsaken character
• A stepping stone to rare steeds — the vendor Zachariah Post sells seven mounts at once, including the larger Green Skeletal Warhorse, Brown Skeletal Warhorse and Purple Skeletal Warhorse. While you are out for the brown one, it is convenient to close the whole collection at once
• Available to all characters on the account — like any other modern mount, once the spell is first learned it appears in the shared collection, and all your Horde characters can use it

For the undead race this is the easiest part. You do not need to spend time grinding reputation — you just need to reach level 10, get the riding skill and go to the vendor.

1. Reach level 10. In Midnight, Apprentice Riding is granted automatically and for free — there is no need to visit a trainer or pay gold
2. Fly to Tirisfal Glades. From Orgrimmar, take the portal to the Undercity, then head northeast toward the ruins of Lordaeron
3. Find Zachariah Post at the northeastern corner of the ruins, in a tent surrounded by skeletal horses. The coordinates are roughly [66, 67]
4. Open the merchant window and buy the Brown Skeletal Horse for about 80 silver
5. Use the item to learn the mount. From this point on it will be available to all your Horde characters through the collections menu

For orcs, trolls and other Horde races you need Exalted status with the Undercity. We will show the fastest path in the current patch.

Step 1. Preparation

• A max-level character (90 in Midnight) or close to it
• It is advisable to have a gold reserve for the Tabard of the Undercity and consumables to speed up reputation
• Enable experience and reputation boosts from additional sources if available (events, potions)

Step 2. Get the Tabard of the Undercity

The Forsaken quartermaster Captain Donald Adams moved to Orgrimmar after the destruction of the Undercity. He can now be found on the walls of Orgrimmar, above the city's main gates, roughly at coordinates [56, 90]. A Forsaken refugee camp is set up there too. From the quartermaster you buy the Tabard of the Undercity — a tabard that redirects the reputation earned in dungeons to the Undercity faction.

If you do not see Donald Adams in place, check whether you have completed the introductory Shadowlands quest at the entrance to Thunder Bluff. Due to phasing, the NPC may be invisible until the storyline is finished.

Step 3. Choose a farming method

There are two main methods, and they can be combined.

Dungeon farming with the tabard. Put on the Tabard of the Undercity and run dungeons from The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King and Cataclysm on any difficulty. Every creature killed and every boss grants reputation to your current championship. At max level, dungeons can be cleared solo in 2–5 minutes.

The most efficient dungeons for fast farming:

An important limitation: the tabard does not grant reputation in dungeons of its own expansion or in Midnight dungeons. Use older content.

Quests in classic zones. As a backup in the early stages, complete the quest chains in Tirisfal Glades, Silverpine Forest, Hillsbrad Foothills and the Western Plaguelands. This will give you starting reputation levels and introduce you to Forsaken lore.

Step 4. Buy the mount

After reaching Exalted with the Undercity, return to Zachariah Post in Tirisfal Glades. He will lift the restriction and let you buy any of his mounts, including the Brown Skeletal Horse.

• Farm reputation in parallel with other Horde cities. If you are collecting Horde capital mounts anyway (blood elf, orc, troll), use the Tabard of the Undercity during one dungeon cycle, then swap to other capital tabards. That way you can close several factions at once over a couple of weekends
• Do not confuse the old coordinates. In early guides Zachariah stands in the village of Brill at coordinates [61, 51]. After the events of Battle for Azeroth the NPC moved to the ruins of Lordaeron. The current coordinates are [66, 67]. If you arrived in Brill and did not find the vendor, head northeast toward the ruins
• Check the "Mounts" tab before buying. If one of your characters already learned the basic skeletal horse earlier, the mount will stay in the collection and there is no need to rebuy it. You will see it in the collections tab on all your Horde characters of any race
• For a Forsaken the mount is almost free. A new undead character only needs to reach the ruins of Lordaeron and pay less than one gold — it is one of the cheapest entries in the mount collection in the entire game
• If you are an Alliance character, the mount is unavailable. Zachariah Post is marked as a faction vendor and trades only with the Horde. To complete this mount in the collection, you will have to create a Horde character and earn the reputation there
