Brown War Ottuk
Overview

Brown War Ottuk is a ground mount added to World of Warcraft in the Dragonflight expansion (patch 10.0.2). It is a massive armored ottuk of a dark brown color with a leather harness, steel plating, and battle tusks. Ottuks are native inhabitants of the Dragon Isles, allies of the tuskarr of Iskaara, and the mount model emphasizes the martial rather than the mercantile purpose of these beasts.
The mount is sold by Tatto and Murik in the Iskaara settlement in the Valdrakken. To purchase it you must reach Renown level 30 with the Iskaara Tuskarr and gather a set of Dragon Isles currencies. An alternative route is to choose this steed as the reward for the quest Our Ferocious, Armored Steeds, which unlocks over the course of the reputation storyline.
The second color of this model is the
Yellow War Ottuk. Since the quest grants only one of the two variants, you will still have to buy the second steed from the quartermaster.
Why You Want This Mount
- Unique model — the war ottuk family was introduced only in Dragonflight and comes in just two color variations. The brown version looks sterner than the yellow one and suits characters in heavy armor
- Ground mount at maximum speed — a +60% or +100% bonus to movement speed depending on your riding skill
- Unlocks the ottuk collection — together with the scouting, trading, and quest ottuks it forms a full lineup of eight mounts of the same model
- Account-wide — once obtained, the mount is unlocked for all characters of both factions
- Status symbol — purchasing it requires Renown level 30, that is, the maximum standing with the Iskaara Tuskarr
How to Obtain
There are two main paths: buy it from Tatto for currency, or choose it as the reward for the reputation storyline quest.
- Complete the introductory Dragonflight storyline chain and reach the Azure Span, where the settlement of the Iskaara tuskarr is located
- Begin earning Renown with the Iskaara Tuskarr: complete daily and weekly tasks, help the Iskaara community, and take part in events along the coast
- Reach Renown level 30 — the maximum rank of the faction. At this stage the quest Our Ferocious, Armored Steeds unlocks
- Complete the quest and choose as your reward the
Brown War Ottuk or the
Yellow War Ottuk - For the second color, gather the currency and buy from Tatto (13.8, 49.6) or Shezra (13.2, 49.2) in Iskaara
Cost at the Quartermaster
The price of the
Brown War Ottuk is identical to that of its yellow companion model. All three currencies are obtained exclusively in the Dragon Isles and do not transfer between characters.
| Currency | Amount | Where to Farm |
|---|---|---|
| 1000 | Regular zone tasks, treasure chests, rare monsters, events in the Dragon Isles | |
| 5 | Trophy from mastodons across the Dragon Isles | |
| 5 | Trophy from large fish in the waters of the Dragon Isles |
Earning Renown with the Iskaara Tuskarr
Renown is the Dragonflight reputation rating system. To purchase the war ottuk you need rank 30, that is, the full progression of the faction. The main sources of Renown are concentrated in the Azure Span and around Iskaara.
- Iskaara Community Feast — a regular local event in Iskaara where the community cooks dishes and battles waves of enemies. Grants Renown for each stage
- The weekly Aiding the Accord quest — turning in provisions to the Iskaara communal pot. Yields a significant amount of Renown
- Azure Span daily tasks — chains from the tuskarr elders, fishing, and the defense of Iskaara
- World quests in the tuskarr zones — most world quests in the Azure Span grant reputation with the tuskarr
- Fishing at Iskaara — special fishing tasks are handed out by quartermasters right on the pier
- "Iskaara Community" events — periodic events in the bay near the settlement, rewarding reputation and currency for mounts
Farming Currency for the Purchase
Frostfist's Eye
Frostfist's Eye is the universal currency of Dragonflight. The 1000 units are gathered quickly if you carry out ordinary activities alongside building reputation.
- Open all treasure chests in the Dragon Isles — most contain 30–50 units of supplies
- Kill rare monsters — the first of each per week grants a bonus bag of supplies
- Complete world quests — the standard reward is 35–50 supplies
- Take part in large-scale events
Aquatic Maw
Aquatic Maw drops from the large aquatic fauna of the Dragon Isles. The best farming spots are along the coast of the Azure Span. Hunt particularly large fish. It drops infrequently, but the 5 units for one mount are gathered in an hour to an hour and a half of focused farming.
Mastodon Tusk
Mastodon Tusk is harvested from mastodons across the Dragon Isles. The densest herds are found in the Azure Span. The drop is not guaranteed, but given the kill speed 5 tusks are collected in 30–60 minutes.
Tips
Save up for both war ottuks at once — the quest grants one, and the second will still have to be bought. The combined price of the two mounts is 2000 supplies, 10 Aquatic Maws, and 10 Mastodon Tusks
Start farming currencies in advance — maws and tusks drop rarely, so accumulate them while building Renown rather than at the end
Don't forget the paired collection mounts — the
Brown Scouting Ottuk and the
Yellow Scouting Ottuk cost less: 750 supplies, 2 maws, and 2 tusks. They can be bought as early as Renown rank 25
Turn in provisions to the communal pot weekly — this is the most stable and dense source of Renown with the tuskarr
Plan your daily quest route — most Iskaara points are arranged compactly, and with a good loop all tasks are completed in 15–20 minutes
Alts speed up currency farming — Dragon Isles supplies do not transfer between characters, but every character has access to world quests. Each alt in the Azure Span means an extra 1000+ supplies a week
The mount is account-wide — once you obtain the
Brown War Ottuk, the steed will appear in the collection of all characters, regardless of faction and class
