Overview

Game iconBruce is an epic ground crocolisk mount added in the Battle for Azeroth expansion (patch 8.1.5). It's the rideable version of Bruce — the very crocolisk that every Brawler's Guild newcomer fights at rank one. The model mirrors the combat boss: a massive armored reptile with a heavy saddle and harness. Its mount journal description is extremely terse, quoting the arena's battle cry: "Bruce!".

The mount was awarded for completing the "Mysterious Murder" quest chain — a detective story from the fourth season of the Brawler's Guild, in which the player investigated a mysterious death at the arena. The reward for the final quest, Solving the Mystery, was Game iconBruce.

It's important to understand up front: this mount is no longer available. Its source was removed with the release of patch 9.0.1 (October 13, 2020), along with the quest chain itself. If Bruce is already in your collection, you own a rarity whose numbers no longer grow. If not, there's no way to earn it the classic way anymore — but there are modern successors in the guild's current season.

Why you want this mount

  • A closed-off rarity. Bruce is only available to those who finished the chain before patch 9.0.1. No new owners appear, so over time the mount becomes an ever more valuable badge of an arena veteran.
  • An iconic model. The crocolisk Bruce has been familiar to every Brawler's Guild member since Mists of Pandaria — a recognizable symbol of the arena, not just another reptile in your collection.
  • One of a kind. No other rideable crocolisk in the game shares this coloring. Modern successors use a similar model, but with different colors and details.
  • Account-wide. For those who earned the mount, it's unlocked on all characters regardless of faction, class, or level.

How Bruce was obtained

The classic method is no longer available, but for context it's worth knowing how the mount was awarded. The "Mysterious Murder" chain consisted of more than twenty quests and played out as a detective story: a murder took place at the Brawl'gar Arena, and the player, guided by the investigation commander, gathered evidence against three suspects.

The investigation walked the player through every Brawler's Guild mechanic: arena victories, betting with the croupier, taking part in group brawls, buying challenge cards for special fights. As the story unfolded, the true cause behind it all was revealed — a disguised Void ethereal stood behind the suspects.

Each faction had its own finale, but they were structurally identical:

  • The Horde finished the chain with the quest Solving the Mystery at the Brawl'gar Arena in Orgrimmar, where you had to defeat a mysterious opponent.
  • The Alliance completed the equivalent quest Solving the Mystery at Bizmo's Brawlpub in Stormwind.

The reward for the final fight was the Bruce mount. You could join the Brawler's Guild itself with a Game iconBlood-Soaked Invitation, passed on by players already in the guild.

Current status and successors

Bruce was removed from the game along with the fourth season of the Brawler's Guild in patch 9.0.1. The quest givers no longer appear and the "Mysterious Murder" chain can't be completed — the mount stays in the collection only for those who managed to earn it.

The good news is that the Brawler's Guild has returned. Its fifth season offers two new rideable crocolisks and a rocket bike that carry on Bruce's legacy in spirit. They're earned through arena ranks rather than a detective chain:

Mount Requirement Cost
Game iconBrawler Bruno Rank 6 in the Brawler's Guild 4,000 gold
Game iconSwift Bronco Rank 8 in the Brawler's Guild 10,000 gold

Game iconBrawler Bruno is Bruce's direct successor: the same crocolisk model type, and its description openly nods to its predecessor, calling Bruno "even mightier (and possibly even meaner) than his crocolisk majesty Bruce." Both mounts are bought from the guild quartermasters at the Brawl'gar Arena and Bizmo's Brawlpub after reaching the required rank.

Tips

1

If you already have Bruce, treasure it as a collector's rarity. No new owners appear, and with each passing year the mount looks more prestigious.

2

There's no way to obtain the original Bruce anymore. Don't waste time looking for workarounds — the "Mysterious Murder" chain has been completely removed from the game.

3

If it's specifically the crocolisk model you're after, join the current season's Brawler's Guild and grind ranks: inv_crocoliskmount_greenBrawler Bruno is the closest to the original in both looks and spirit.

4

Arena ranks are unlocked by defeating bosses of increasing difficulty. Reaching rank 6 for Brawler Bruno is noticeably easier than reaching rank 8 for the Swift Bronco.

5

Save up gold in advance. The mounts themselves aren't expensive, but the road to the required rank takes time and regular arena fights.

6

Keep an eye on Brawler's Guild news. Blizzard periodically brings back old content in new forms, and similar rewards could well appear again.
