Overview

Excavator's Brand

Game iconExcavator's Brand is a one-handed mace (Blunt type) of rare quality that has been in the game since the classic era. Visually it is not the usual head on a handle but a burning torch: the wide top is wreathed in living flame, so in your character's hand the item reads as a blazing beacon. The model is universal for every specialization that uses one-handed maces, from warriors and paladins to shamans and priests.

The defining feature of the look is the constant flame. The item carries a Chance on Hit effect that periodically Game iconlaunches a fireball, dealing fire damage. At the transmog level the combat value has long been irrelevant, but the burning torch itself makes the item one of the most recognizable fiery one-handed options of early Azeroth.

Source

The item drops out in the open world — it is dropped by the Shadowforge Surveyor, a level 30 humanoid from the Dark Iron clan.

  • You should look for the enemy in the Badlands zone — a contested territory for characters of levels 15–30.
  • The surveyors roam the surface near the entrance to the Uldaman dungeon, in the western part of the zone.
  • This is not a dungeon drop: you can kill the mobs right in the open world, without forming a group and without entering the instance.
  • The drop chance is low — around 1–2 %, so count on a series of kills rather than a couple of attempts.
  • There is no limit on the number of attempts: the surveyors respawn quickly, so the farm runs in a loop with no weekly lockouts.

At the current Midnight max level (90) any of these enemies dies in one or two hits, so the farm comes down to clearing the spawn point and waiting for the respawn.

Who It Suits Visually

  • It works well for fiery and "priestly" concepts: the burning torch fits naturally with cloth and mail sets in warm tones.
  • It pairs nicely with red-and-orange armor and shoulders bearing tongues of flame — an overall "fire-bearer" image.
  • It harmonizes with a retribution paladin or inquisitor priest theme, where the torch reads as a symbol of purifying flame.
  • A contrasting option for dark plate sets: a lone source of light in the hand makes the character's silhouette stand out.
  • It echoes the fire theme of the Game iconFiery War Axe look, if you are assembling a "pyro" image from several items.

Tips

1

Bring a character with fast travel: a mount sharply speeds up flying around the surveyor spawn points in the Badlands.

2

Clear the entire group of enemies at the Uldaman entrance at once and return to the start — by that time the first mobs will already have respawned.

3

The drop is shared across all specializations, so you can farm the look on any class you find convenient, with no tie to a role.

4

Since the item becomes soulbound on equip, you cannot sell or trade it — you need to collect the look on the very character who needs it.

5

If you collect fiery one-handers, keep an eye on the Fiery War Axe at the same time: both items cover the fire theme in different weapon slots.

6

Take the in-game time of day into account only for screenshot aesthetics — at night the burning torch looks especially striking.
