Overview

Fang of Contagion

Game iconFang of Contagion is an epic-quality one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with the Midnight expansion. This weapon comes from the Voidscar Arena dungeon: a short, curved blade with a serrated edge, rendered in a dark green, venomous palette. The dagger's appearance evokes the theme of poison and contagion — hence its name.

The model belongs to the dungeon weapon set of the Harandar region: the same blade silhouette appears on several pieces of gear from Midnight instances, differing only in color scheme. The green variant is the most "venomous" of them and is easily recognized by the swampy sheen of its metal.

The dagger occupies a one-hand slot. By its stats it is built for intellect-based specializations — so in combat it is wielded by mages, druids, priests, shamans, warlocks, and evokers. For transmog the restrictions are softer: the dagger's appearance is available to any class that can wield daggers, and in Midnight the weapon transmogrification system was expanded — daggers can now be transferred onto one-handed swords and onto paired weapons as well.

Source

Fang of Contagion drops in the Voidscar Arena dungeon — one of the Midnight expansion's instances, located in the Voidstorm zone. In the story, the Overseer Charonus has gathered fighters from every corner of Azeroth into his arena and forces them to battle for his own amusement.

The specific source of the dagger is the elite beast Atroxus, the second of the dungeon's three bosses. This is a huge, hungry monster that Charonus has caged: it spews venom and spits poison across the area. Fang of Contagion is part of its loot table.

Key facts about obtaining it:

  • The dungeon opens at level 90 and is available in normal and heroic modes in Midnight's first season.
  • The entrance to Voidscar Arena is in the northern part of Voidstorm, in the area around the coordinates /way 51.4 18.5. The safest approach is to fly to the entrance on a flying mount — elite enemies roam nearby.
  • Atroxus is the second boss along the way. Before reaching him you must first defeat the first boss, Taz'Rah, a reluctant champion of the domanar.
  • The dagger drops as ordinary random loot from the boss — there is no guaranteed drop, and on bad luck the dungeon is run again.
  • Loot per character is limited to a set number of bosses in one run; for additional attempts at the drop, the dungeon is rerun without weekly limits on normal and heroic difficulty.
  • The whole instance is wrapped up by the quest Voidscar Arena: Breaking the Triad — it requires defeating the final boss, Charonus.

Visual fit

  • Looks centered on poison and contagion: the dagger harmonizes with green and swampy armor sets that feature motifs of venom, spores, and rot.
  • A poisoner-rogue theme — the serrated blade in a venomous tint reads well in sets built around stealth and toxins.
  • Dark sets with green accents: the dagger works as a contrasting detail when the main armor is kept in black and gray tones.
  • Druid and shaman looks with a natural palette — the swamp-green metal of the blade echoes plant and beast motifs.
  • Dual-wield builds: thanks to Midnight's expanded transmog system, Fang of Contagion can be applied to both weapon slots at once, assembling a symmetrical look from two identical blades.

Tips

1

The optimal path to the dagger is the heroic mode of Voidscar Arena: the loot there is of higher quality, and the boss Atroxus takes only a little longer to kill than on normal difficulty.

2

In the fight with Atroxus, keep away from the cones of "venomous breath" and don't stand in the pools of poison on the floor — extra damage slows the run and raises the risk of dying in a group.

3

Don't approach the edge of the platform before the "monstrous stomp": the attack knocks players back, and from the edge you can be thrown off the arena.

4

For fast farming, assemble a group in advance: the dungeon on heroic is cleared in a single run, and repeat runs for loot do not hit weekly limits.

5

Atroxus is the second boss of three, so in one run you can also check the loot tables of Taz'Rah and Charonus for other weapons and accessories.

6

The class you farm on hardly matters — a stable group and knowledge of the three simple boss mechanics matter more; the dungeon is considered one of the most forgiving of the season.

7

If the dagger doesn't drop, don't waste time waiting: there are no boss respawns inside the instance — restart the dungeon entirely and run the path to Atroxus again.

8

The appearance is added to your transmogrification collection the moment you receive the item — even if you don't need the dagger as a weapon, just picking it up is enough to unlock the look forever.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
