Ancestral Clefthoof is an uncommon ground mount added to World of Warcraft alongside the Trading Post system in the Dragonflight expansion. It is a massive dark-grey clefthoof with contrasting snow-white fur on its chest, mane, and tail, resembling the oldest members of its kind from Draenor. The item description reads: "This clefthoof has seen it all over its long life. Age after age, it has patiently taught its riders how to ride."
The mount is sold at the Trading Post for 650 Trader's Tender. The mount first appeared in the August 2023 rotation, and in February 2025 it returned at a discounted price of 500 Tender to celebrate the Trading Post's second anniversary. The Trading Post selection refreshes every month, so you need to watch for the clefthoof showing up in the current rotation.
The only way to obtain the mount is to save up 650 Trader's Tender and wait for the clefthoof to appear in the monthly Trading Post rotation.
The Trading Post is a monthly-refreshed shop of cosmetic items bought with a special currency. The system is available to all subscribers and is fully account-bound.
| Source of Tender | Amount | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Collector's Cache | 500 Tender | Once a month on login |
| Traveler's Log tasks | up to 500 Tender | Monthly |
| Quest Inspect the Trading Post | 500 Tender | One-time |
| Reward for fully filling the bar | additional rewards | Monthly |
This way, with an active subscription you are guaranteed to receive 1,000 Trader's Tender every month, which is enough to buy a single mount for 650 Tender.
The Trading Post selection rotates every month, and Blizzard does not announce the exact return dates of items in advance. The announcement is published a few days before the first of the new month.
The monthly Traveler's Log tasks are the main way to earn the missing Tender beyond the fixed 500 from the Collector's Cache.
Don't skip months — even if the rotation doesn't interest you, log in for the 500 Tender from the Collector's Cache. The currency stacks without limits (storage cap of 1,000 Tender).
Do the Traveler's Log on one character — progress is shared across the whole account, but it's more convenient to turn in quests and collect rewards with one active alt.
Set aside 150 reserve Tender — if the clefthoof appears next month, you'll have enough with the 500 already collected from the Cache plus 150 extra in case the Log tasks turn out to be tough.
Watch the February rotations — to celebrate the Trading Post anniversary (February each year), some items return at a reduced price. The Ancestral Clefthoof cost 500 Tender in February 2025.
Pick up the tour quest on a new account — the one-time reward of 500 Tender for Inspect the Trading Post effectively gives you half the cost of the clefthoof right after getting acquainted with the system.
Don't confuse it with the Draenor clefthoofs — the family includes the
Trained Icehoof, the
Thick-Hide Cliffstomper and other related mounts, each obtained in its own way. The Ancestral Clefthoof is unique in that it is the only clefthoof available through the Trading Post.
