Battle-Hardened Aquilon
Overview

Battle-Hardened Aquilon is an epic flying mount from the aquilon family, added in patch 9.1 "Chains of Domination" of the Shadowlands expansion. The aquilon is a copper-hued mechanical winged creature crafted by the Kyrian for combat operations. According to its description, an aquilon can become a valuable ally in battle, outperforming the falinxes in capability.
The mount is purchased from Duchess Mynx at Keeper's Respite in Korthia for 1,000 Stygia. The purchase requires Exalted reputation with the Death's Advance faction and the completed The Best Defense achievement.
Why You Want This Mount
- Guaranteed acquisition — the mount is bought from a vendor at a fixed price, with no element of randomness
- Unique Kyrian model — aquilons stand out visually from most flying mounts. The copper coloring of the Battle-Hardened Aquilon sets it apart from the other model variants (Elysian Aquilon, Aquilon of the Reborn, Aquilon of the Forsworn, Bronze Aquilon)
- Ground and flying — the mount works both on the ground and in the air. Its speed depends on your riding skill: up to +100% on the ground and up to +310% while flying
- Available to all characters — once learned, the mount appears in the collection on every character of the account
- Inexpensive — at 1,000 Stygia it costs far less than some of the other Korthia mounts
How to Obtain
To buy the mount you must meet three conditions at once: belong to the Kyrian Covenant, reach Exalted with Death's Advance, and complete the "The Best Defense" achievement.
- Join the Kyrian Covenant — the Battle-Hardened Aquilon is a covenant mount and is available only to Kyrian players. If you belong to another covenant, switch it at the Path Keeper in Oribos
- Raise your reputation with the Death's Advance faction to Exalted (42,000 points in total). The faction unlocks after you begin the patch 9.1 campaign in Korthia
- Complete the The Best Defense achievement — a meta-achievement that requires finishing 6 of 9 side objectives during the covenant assaults in the Maw
- Save up 1,000 Stygia
- Find Duchess Mynx at Keeper's Respite in Korthia and buy the mount
- Use the item to learn the mount and add it to your collection
Where to Find Duchess Mynx
Duchess Mynx is the quartermaster of the Death's Advance faction. She is located at Keeper's Respite — the main hub of Korthia, which you reach after starting the patch 9.1 campaign.
How to Get to Korthia
- Begin the "Chains of Domination" campaign (patch 9.1) by accepting the quest in Oribos
- After completing the introductory quests you will gain access to Korthia
- Use the portal from Oribos to the Maw, and then to Korthia. There is also a flight point at Keeper's Respite
Coordinates
Duchess Mynx also sells gear, pets and other mounts. Each covenant has its own unique mount:
Battle-Hardened Aquilon (Kyrian), Battlewarped War Harness (Necrolords), Pale Flyer (Venthyr), Wild Glimmerfur Harness (Night Fae).
The Best Defense Achievement
The Best Defense is a meta-achievement tied to the covenant assaults in the Maw. The assaults were introduced in patch 9.1 and take place twice a week.
To complete the meta-achievement you must finish 6 of 9 side achievements:
- A United Front
- That's the Army
- Zovaal's Dance
- A Sly Fox
- Heroes of Krrprripkraak
- The Jailer's Personal Stash
- Hide and Seek
- Torghast Tourist
- Tea for the Tormented
The achievement is account-wide: completing it on one character is enough for the mount to become available for purchase on any alt of the required covenant.
Building Reputation with Death's Advance
To buy the mount you need Exalted with Death's Advance — 42,000 reputation points in total.
Main Reputation Sources
- Daily quests in Korthia — the main source. Several quests are available each day, granting from 75 to 150 reputation points
- Covenant assaults in the Maw — take place twice a week, each granting +350 reputation points
- Weekly quests — large quests with an increased reputation reward
- Stolen Korthian Supplies — an item that drops from mobs in Korthia, granting +200 reputation points
- Killing rares and opening chests — a small amount of reputation for each action
How Long It Takes
Doing all available quests daily, raising reputation from Neutral to Exalted takes roughly 3-4 weeks.
Farming Stygia
Stygia is the currency of the Maw and Korthia. Buying the mount requires 1,000 Stygia — a relatively small sum that you will accumulate while building reputation.
Where to Get Stygia
- Daily quests in Korthia — reward Stygia
- Killing mobs and rares in the Maw and Korthia — the main source
- Chests in the Maw — contain Stygia
- Covenant assaults — extra Stygia for completion
You will not lose Stygia when you die in Korthia (unlike the main Maw zone before patch 9.1).
Tips
The achievement is account-wide — if you have already completed "The Best Defense" on another character, you do not need to do it again. Just build reputation and buy the mount on a Kyrian character
Combine reputation and the achievement — covenant assaults grant Death's Advance reputation and progress toward the side achievements for "The Best Defense" at the same time. Do them whenever possible
Switching covenants — if your main character is not Kyrian, create an alt or switch covenant. Since patch 9.1.5 switching covenants happens instantly and without losing progress
Don't rush to spend Stygia — 1,000 Stygia accumulates naturally while building reputation. Spend Stygia on Ve'nari upgrades only if you have a surplus
Check the side objectives — during an assault, watch for the extra tasks marked on the map. They count toward the progress of the side achievements
The mount stays after switching covenants — once bought and learned, the mount remains in your collection forever, even if you leave the Kyrian Covenant
