Overview

Biting Frostshard Core

Game iconBiting Frostshard Core is a mount-collection item that teaches you to summon the Game iconFrostshard Infernal. It is a ground mount shaped like a demonic elemental wreathed in blue ice instead of the hellfire usually seen on infernals. The model is shared with other infernals in the series, but the coloring is unique — pure frosty ice with an inner glow.

The mount is awarded automatically for the No Stable Big Enough achievement, which is credited when you collect 350 different mounts on a single character. The achievement was added in Battle for Azeroth (patch 8.0.1, July 17, 2018), and the mount remains the relevant final reward of the collection series at the 350-mount milestone.

Why you want this mount

  • Reward for a long collection — the infernal is designed as a trophy obtained only by persistent collectors. Seeing it under your character is a visual marker of status among players.
  • Unique icy infernal coloring — you will not find this blue frosty infernal version anywhere else. The other infernals on the same skeleton are coated in fire, fel, or shadow.
  • Account-wide access — once you use the Game iconBiting Frostshard Core, the mount unlocks on every character on the account, including the opposite faction.
  • Bonus to overall collection progress — on the way to 350 mounts you also close out the earlier achievements in the series: 300 mounts grants Lord of the Reins with the title of the same name, and right after 350 the next step at 400 is on the horizon — A Horde of Hoofbeats with a demonic gryphon.
  • A one-time goal for years of play — No Stable Big Enough is earned only within a single character, so it is worth deciding right away who on your account becomes the "main collector" and working toward it.

How the achievement works

No Stable Big Enough triggers when one specific character has learned 350 different mounts. Key nuances:

  • The count is tracked by the statistics page, not by the number in the mount journal. These numbers often differ because some mounts are counted once rather than separately for a group.
  • Mounts unavailable to your character by faction, class, or race do not count. For example, an Alliance character will not benefit from having Horde racial mounts on the account until they learn their own variants.
  • Mounts obtained on other characters of your account are added to the collection but only count toward the achievement once your current character is eligible to use them.
  • The counter updates instantly as soon as the character gains access to another mount. The reward arrives by mail — as the Game iconBiting Frostshard Core.

If you have several characters and the counters do not match, open the statistics page and rely only on it.

Mount collection achievement series

To understand where you stand on the road to 350, keep the entire achievement ladder at hand. Each step grants a reward — from a gryphon mount to titles.

It makes sense to build a 350-mount guide together with this table: most players, once they have collected 300, pick up the remaining 50 in 1-2 months of focused effort.

Step-by-step plan for collecting 350 mounts

The road to this mount is noticeably different from farming a single item. You will need a daily and weekly rotation of sources. The optimal order is from fast mass sources to pinpoint rare drops.

1. Starter set and free mounts

  • Buy a basic ground mount from your race's trainer — these are the first 1-2 mounts.
  • Raise your riding skill to Apprentice Riding (level 20) and get a tier-two mount — one more.
  • At max level, activate the Trading Post and each month take the free mount from the Trader's Tender selection.
  • All seasonal events (Lunar Festival, Hallow's End, Love is in the Air, and so on) grant 1-2 mounts for completing the mini-events.

2. Racial mounts via trial classes

One of the fastest ways to close out 20-40 entries is to create trial characters of different races and buy all racial mounts from the matching vendor without needing to grind reputation.

  • A trial character starts immediately at level 60 with a full bag of gold for the start.
  • Vendors accept the trial character's gold — buy all available racial mounts.
  • For the mounts to end up in the account collection, use the items before deleting the trial character.

3. Reputations by expansion

Reputations give 50-70 mounts when cleared systematically. It is easier to go from fresh expansions to older ones.

  • The War Within: the Assembly of the Deeps, the Hallowfall Arathi, the Council of Dornogal reputations — 1-2 mounts each at Exalted.
  • Dragonflight: the dragons of the Dragon Isles and the mammoths of the Maruuk Centaur.
  • Battle for Azeroth and Legion: 7th Legion, Storm's Wake, Legion class orders.
  • Mists of Pandaria: the Grummles, Shado-Pan, Golden Lotus — each reputation unlocks 1-3 mounts.
  • Shadowlands and WoD: the Wild Hunt, Court of Night, garrison stables.

4. Warlords of Draenor garrison stables

Building the level-3 stables in your WoD garrison gives a chain of daily quests for 6-7 unique talbuk mounts. It still works today at max level without restrictions.

  • Deploy a level-3 garrison and build the Stables of at least level 2.
  • Each day take on the beast-taming quests in Nagrand and Gorgrond.
  • Every 1-2 weeks a new mount unlocks, 7 in total.

5. Old raids and dungeons with guaranteed mounts

These sources are not tied to luck and grant a mount either by achievement or by full clear.

  • Game iconBronze Drake from the heroic Culling of Stratholme (the Infinite Dragonflight route).
  • Amani War Bear from Zul'Aman on a timer.
  • Drakes from the Obsidian Sanctum (10-player, no drakes up — a separate drake for the feat).
  • Raid meta-achievements from Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria with mount rewards.

6. Old raids with mount drops

Here luck is already required, but when farming on several characters the drop eventually comes.

7. PvP mounts and seasonal rewards

Not all mounts require a high rating — some are available just for participating.

  • A mount for winning 100 random battlegrounds.
  • Seasonal PvP mounts for completing the "Combatant", "Duelist", "Rival" arena goals.
  • Mounts from Honor and battleground vendors for Honor points.

8. Professions and vendors

Some mounts are crafted or sold directly by vendors.

9. Rare drops from elite mobs

The remaining 10-30 mounts are usually closed out with pinpoint world drops via daily visits.

Farming optimization

Choosing your main character

  • Pick the character that already has the most mounts learned — that is the one who will receive the Game iconBiting Frostshard Core.
  • Give priority to characters with leveled Engineering and Jewelcrafting, because some mounts are tied to a profession.
  • Do not chase the "perfect race" — racial mounts go into the account-wide collection through the journal.

Planning the week

For comfortable progress keep this rotation:

  • Monday: current-expansion reputation, seasonal events.
  • Tuesday: old raids with a lockout timer (ICC, Ulduar, Firelands, Tempest Keep).
  • Wednesday-Friday: daily garrison stables, Trading Post (Trader's Tender), profession quests.
  • Saturday-Sunday: world quests, rare mobs, PvP battlegrounds for the 100-win mount.

Progress-tracking tools

  • The SimpleArmory tracker site — marks every mount you are missing, broken down by source.
  • The Collectinator addon shows in-game what is missed in the current zone.
  • The "Not Collected" filter in the mount journal and the Wowhead collection.

Typical time estimate

With active play, going from a zero account to 350 mounts usually takes 4-6 months. Experienced collectors close the achievement in 110-120 days if the focus is on mounts alone and there is a ready guild for old raids. On an established character with a 200+ collection, picking up 50-100 mounts fits into 1-2 months of relaxed play.

Tips

1

Keep garrison quests active right away — even with 300+ mounts, the daily WoD stables bring steady progress and keep you from losing momentum.

2

Open loot on the right character — before clicking "Use" on a rare mount reward, make sure your main collector is the active one.

3

Combine old-raid farming — the optimal route is Tempest Keep → Ulduar → Firelands → Icecrown Citadel. These raids run on a lockout in a single day and give four mount chances at once.

4

Do not skip holidays — each seasonal event adds one or two mounts, and if you do not collect them during the specific holiday, you will have to wait a whole year.

5

Save the money mounts for last — expensive mounts are worth buying when you are only 1-2 entries away from 350.

6

Use trial classes ahead of time — some racial mounts are more convenient to buy before leveling your own main in a new expansion, so you do not get distracted later.

7

Watch the Trading Post every month — among the monthly rewards there are regularly easy mounts that add 1-3 entries for free.
